About the Role
Develop, implement and evaluate social policy and lead strategic social planning initiatives, including Council’s Affordable Housing Policy and homelessness-related work, to deliver outcomes that respond to local community needs.
Work collaboratively to coordinate projects, advocacy and evidence‑based strategies aligned with Council Plan health priorities, strengthening and embedding social planning approaches across the organisation.
What You’ll deliver
- Lead the development, implementation and review of social policies, strategies and action plans, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and emerging community needs.
- Provide expert social policy and planning advice, including evidence summaries, data analysis, social impact assessments and clear, actionable recommendations.
- Drive collaborative social planning across the organisation, working closely with planning, operational staff, corporate and service areas, and coordinating cross‑departmental initiatives, partnerships and working groups.
- Develop and deliver monitoring, evaluation and advocacy activities, including submissions, briefings, evidence‑based positions, and continuous improvement of policy and project practices.
- Build strong internal and external relationships, represent the organisation, deliver high‑quality written materials and presentations, and manage projects with effective stakeholder engagement.
What You’ll Bring
- Relevant qualifications and experience in social/public policy, urban planning, public health or related fields.
- Proven policy and strategy development capability, with understanding of Local, State and Federal policy and legislative environments.
- Strong grasp of social and commercial determinants of health, and how statutory and strategic planning levers can improve community outcomes.
- An understanding of Social and Affordable Housing, with knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of all levels of government in responding to the housing crisis.
- Skilled in building effective strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve shared outcomes.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills, including the ability to develop innovative solutions, influence diverse audiences, and produce high‑quality written and verbal advice.
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check and Eligibility to Work check.
