Department overview:
The Procurement department at Aston Martin is responsible for the selection and management of all external suppliers to the business. The department has a direct impact upon the Company’s profitability and its team members are relied upon to professionally develop and maintain competitive, stable, long-term supply agreements with its supplier base. These agreements will help Aston Martin to achieve greater commercial success in the future and contribute to the long-term profitability of the company.
Job Purpose:
To directly manage a team of procurement Buyers and or project within the direct procurement group. Procure a defined range of components, in line with Procurement departmental procedures and objectives, focusing on securing strong commercial terms and excellent quality and delivery service levels from our suppliers while ensuring audit compliance, reporting directly to the Senior Manager
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Create, deliver and execute commodity strategies, ensuring that AML is kept up to date on marketplace commercial and technical developments, as well as legislative regulations. Deep analysis of market forces to include new suppliers, aware of market conditions and able to adapt to changing / challenging environment. Engage cross functionally with key stakeholders to ensure correct business decisions are made tied in with short / long term objectives for the company.
- Manage a team of Buyers covering a significant commodity group of direct spend components & suppliers including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
- Report and responsible for purchasing metrics, such as cost savings, supplier strategy, programme sourcing, risk management, and supplier performance, and to identify areas for improvement
- Apply and support the team in applying effective tools and methodologies to eliminate cost inefficiencies and deliver value for money, while establishing and nurturing robust supplier relationships
- Stay up to date with industry trends, market conditions, and new product developments to ensure the team are delivering best price, product, and delivery.
- Lead total cost and contractual negotiations with current and prospective suppliers, ensuring commercially sound and strategically beneficial outcomes.
- Monitor and support improving (where necessary) supplier performance throughout vehicle launch and series production phases, with a strong focus on maintaining excellence in Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD). Demonstrate ongoing commitment to continuous improvement initiatives within both AML and the wider supply base
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, as well as regulatory requirements
- Provide strategic commercial and procurement input to cross-functional teams, supporting programme delivery through collaborative and solution-focused engagement
- Strive and contribute to process improvement opportunities internally, as well as with the Supplier base, focussing on business ‘Best Practice’ initiatives. While also ensuring social responsibility to the environment is maintained.
- Identify supplier risk and develop robust risk mitigation strategies where necessary.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality products, whilst ensuring this is maintained throughout the team.
- Build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and hold reviews to discuss latest status and progress in meeting the strategic deliverables.
Qualification & Experience:
- Previous Procurement experience is required, within Automotive would be preferred but not essential
- Previous management experience is required
- Educated to Degree level
