Are you a seasoned Data Engineer with a passion for travel and a track record of leveraging data-driven insights to enhance customer experiences and drive business growth? Join our fast-paced environment at WhereTo as a Level III Data Engineer and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of travel through data analysis and innovation.
A day in the life
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and define key business problems that can be addressed using data-driven solutions.
- Design and implement advanced analytical models and algorithms to extract meaningful insights from large, complex datasets related to customer behavior, travel trends, and operational efficiency.
- Develop predictive and prescriptive models to optimize pricing strategies, customer segmentation, recommendation systems, and other critical aspects of the travel experience.
- Analyze historical data and real-time data streams to uncover patterns, trends, and anomalies that inform decision-making and contribute to a deeper understanding of our customers.
- Work closely with software engineers and developers to integrate data pipelines, ensuring seamless data collection, storage, and processing using technologies such as Node.js.
- Lead the end-to-end process of data analysis, from data collection and preprocessing to model development, validation, and deployment.
- Communicate findings and insights effectively to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders through data visualizations, reports, and presentations.
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and travel technology to propose innovative solutions that maintain our competitive edge.
Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics) or related experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Data Engineer, Data Scientist, or in a similar role, with a proven track record of delivering impactful data-driven solutions.
- Strong communication skills required.
- Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python (required) and Node.js (preferred) for data manipulation, analysis, and model development.
- Experience with machine learning techniques, statistical analysis, data mining, and data visualization.
- Proficiency in working with neural networks and deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) to develop and deploy advanced machine learning models.
- Familiarity with travel industry data (e.g., booking data, customer profiles, location data) is a plus.
- Expertise in working with databases such as PostgreSQL and Druid, data warehouses, and data processing frameworks.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to various audiences.
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) is a plus.
- Publications, patents, or contributions to the data science community are a strong advantage.
- Understanding of Large Language Models (LLM) architecture and prompting techniques is a bonus.
