Engineering Manager - Transmission Line Operations & Maintenance

Transmission line and telecommunications engineers with experience in lattice tower and foundations design and who possess a Texas PE are encouraged to apply.

This is a great time to join LCRA as we grow and enhance our high voltage electric transmission system. We have an opportunity for a Transmission O&M Manager in our Transmission Line and Asset Engineering department. In this position, you will have the unique opportunity to lead a team of engineers and technical staff who support and facilitate transmission line O&M efforts to maintain operability and resiliency in our electric grid.

In this role, you are expected to apply specific skills of leadership; decision maker, communicator, collaborator, knowledge and experience in undertaking engineering challenges, working closely with field operations personnel, identifying process improvements, and learning new skills. You are expected to mentor your team and cross-functional teams while having the opportunity to learn from others within the LCRA organization.

You will be trusted to:

- Responsible for managing O&M matters. Be an outstanding mentor to the O&M engineers.Manage O&M staff who perform electric facility studies in compliance with LCRA TSC, state and national standards.
- Preforms overhead transmission line design, knowing PLS-CADD and PLS-Tower.
- Have a strong background in the design and specification of concrete repairs.
- Prior experience participating in industry research groups such as IEEE, EPRI, NATF, SEI, or ANSI.
- Be a strong leader and manager of the O&M engineering team, ensuring an efficient and streamline processes.
- Have a robust communication and collaboration skillset to promote a one team culture.
- A strong decision maker providing engineering direction and support to LCRA TSC's Line Operations & Maintenance crews, Real Estate Services, and other functional teams across the transmission organization.
- Leverage asset data and asset performance data to identify and address opportunities in the electric transmission system to improve resiliency.
- Perform analysis and design of repairs to transmission assets such as concrete foundations, lattice towers, and concrete and steel poles.
- Review and analyze external requests to use LCRA TSC land or easements.
- Conduct studies with the objective of identifying systemic improvements to transmission facilities.
- Perform transmission facilities fault event and failure forensics from which to develop recommendations for system improvements.
- Continuously seek opportunities for improvement in processes and procedures to gain efficiencies, reduce errors, and improve safety.
- Take on other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the department

You qualify with:

- Twelve years of experience in engineering including experience providing leadership in engineering or other relevant experience. A degree(s) in math, computer science, engineering, or related field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
- For Water Services, requires a Professional Engineer license in the State of Texas
- Driver’s license

You are a great fit with:

Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- Knowledge of overhead transmission line design.
- Knowledge and experience using PLS-CADD and/or PLS-Tower.
- Familiarity with interpreting and applying requisite industry design codes such as NESC, IEEE, ASCE, and ACI
- Collaborative. Enjoys working both independently and as part of a team.
- An inquisitive mind with a keen interest in performing forensics and root cause analysis.
