Come join LCRA Transmission Services, a growing and exciting transmission utility in Texas, and be part of the leadership team of Substation Engineering! We are looking for a upbeat, hardworking and knowledgeable technical leader with utility engineering design experience that can lead a team in a fast-pace, high-production environment. You will communicate and coordinate with LCRA's Engineering partners and supervise experienced engineers and designers that provides direct oversight of major 138kV and 345 kV, (and future 765 kV) substation projects in physical, relay and control and SCADA design. You will also drive continuous process improvement for the department by establishing or revamping design and business practices, processes, procedures, standards. You will also provide root cause analysis of operational and safety incidents, near misses and good catches; collect lessons learned and improve our design philosophies. As a member of the Substation Engineering, you will tackle sophisticated problems, provide mentorship, and be an intrinsic player in the day-to-day decision making. You will be trusted to:
- Create and promote a culture built upon the values of safety, integrity, respect, initiative and service within the team. - Be responsible for direct supervision by establishing goals for staff, hiring, performance management, coaching, counseling, mentoring and providing opportunities for growth for all staff. - Maintains awareness of department issues and responds to employee needs and concerns. Communicates with employees to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of information. - Develops statements of work and coordinates proposals and change orders for outside engineering design activities. - Coordinate and collaborate with stakeholders and engineering partners to provide innovative solutions and high quality designs. - Plan, schedule and assign project deliverables to teams; monitor progress and provide status reports. - Process project, financial and scheduling data from multiple sources to prioritize activities and to develop reports. - Establish robust standards, streamlined processes and efficient procedures for engineering outsourcing activities. - Prioritize the procurement of quality management and assurance systems to guarantee technical accuracy and excellence of our project designs.
You qualify with:
- Bachelors degree in engineering, engineering technology, engineering physics, biosystems engineering, mathematical science, physical science or related science plus six or more years of post-Bachelors engineering experience relating to the area of engineering specialization required to perform the job, including providing technical leadership in engineering/design. - Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas for all departments except Telecommunications Engineering - Driver's license
You are a great fit with:
- A bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering or a related field. - At least 5 years of post-graduate direct experience in Substation Design. - Broad and/or detailed knowledge in the areas of Substation Design, Substation Grounding, Insulation Coordination, Protection and Control, and/or SCADA. - Familiarity with 765, 345 and/or 138 kilovolt transmission systems. - Managing multi-million dollar portfolio of transmission utility projects. - Supervisory, managerial or project management experience. - Knowledge of engineering and construction standards and processes including scheduling, contracts, coordinating and managing all disciplines. - Experience with Engineering Drawing Management Systems and CAD applications. - Data analytic and workflow skills in tools like MS excel, Share Point, Asana, MS Access, Tableau, Jira, Oracle SQL, or similar. - Experience in engineering document management systems such as Blue Cielo Meridian, Autodesk Vault or similar. - Experience in Autodesk suite of tools: AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit, Electrical or equivalent. - Experience in integrating digital mark-ups in the support of engineering projects. - Experience in substation design in 3D. - Experience in the management of concurrent engineering projects. - Familiarity with industry codes, standards and such as the NESC, NEC and IEEE for substation applications.
