Job Duties:
Disability Determination Services’ objective is to provide accurate, timely, efficient and cost- effective evaluations of medical and vocational evidence related to claims filed by citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia for benefits under Title II, Title XVI, and Title XIX of the Social Security Act. These evaluations result in the adjudication or “determination” of claims at the initial claims stage, at the continuing disability review stage, and at other appellate points in the disability process.
DDS is seeking an DDS QA Auditor to analyze federal quality assurance data, review claims with errors cited by the SSA federal review component, write rebuttals to dispute errors cited, and manage the agency’s internal rebuttal process.
Other duties and/or special projects as assigned.
Completes duties and/or projects as needed or directed by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
“Telework is limited in accordance with the Commonwealth’s telework policy; however, this position may be based at any of our statewide office locations, including Henrico, Norfolk, Fairfax, or Roanoke.”
The ideal candidate will have:
Knowledge/Experience:
- Extensive knowledge of the Social Security and Medicaid disability programs.
- Extensive knowledge of medical body systems, including major disease processes, treatment regimens, clinical signs, symptoms, laboratory findings, medical terminology, and degree of effect of medically determinable impairments on the mental and physical function of adults and children.
Abilities/Skills:
- Considerable experience in adjudication of disability claims under the Social Security Act, as amended.
- Ability to accurately interpret and apply complex policy and procedures.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, to include articulating and explaining program policy and procedures to others.
- Ability to analyze information, reach logical conclusions, and make feasible recommendations for the consistent and efficient operation of a statewide program.
- Ability to review the work of others.
- Ability to manage assigned work within established timeframes.
- Ability to effectively utilize position related computer applications.

Special Instructions:
- Must pass HSPD-12 federal credentialing.
- This has been designated a sensitive position under Va. Code § 2.2-1201.1.
- The Social Security Administration (SSA) will conduct an extensive fingerprint-based criminal history check and credentialing process on all final candidates.
