Job Duties

The Department of Labor and Industry is committed to providing high quality safety and health training to the public through our VOSH Institute for Learning and Outreach. We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Electrical Safety Trainer to join our team and help us enhance safety awareness and compliance through effective training programs for the public. We are seeking a highly motivated professional to work independently as a part-time Electrical Safety Trainer. This position will require up to 15 hours of work per week. As an Electrical Safety Trainer, you will be responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating safety training programs tailored to adult learners. Your expertise will ensure that Virginia’s workforce is well-equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to maintain a safe and healthy workplace. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated training experience that shows a track record of empowering students to foster injury-free organizational cultures through innovative adult learning. The Safety and Health Trainer will integrate DOLI values, including integrity, trust, and respect, while executing with quality and collaborating with teammates. This position is funded by a Federal OSHA grant and is a restricted short-term position, lasting only until September 30, 2027.   This position will be located in the Headquarters Office, Richmond VA, or in the Central Regional Office, Henrico VA.

Compensation:

This position offers a competitive hourly rate of $38.00 Please note, the agency will not entertain salary negotiations for this position.

Key Responsibilities:
• Develop comprehensive electrical safety training curricula and materials aligned with regulatory standards.
• Deliver engaging training sessions to adult learners using a variety of instructional techniques.
• Assess training effectiveness through evaluations and feedback to continuously improve program quality.
• Collaborate with management to identify training needs and tailor programs accordingly.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of electrical safety regulations and best practices.
• Document training activities and maintain accurate records.

Minimum Qualifications

• Considerable experience as a Safety and Health Trainer or similar role, preferably with a background in curriculum development.
• Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of relevant safety regulations (OSHA, ANSI, etc.).
• Ability to engage and motivate adult learners.

Additional Considerations

• Safety or Health Certifications (CSP, CIH, CHST, etc.).
• Certification in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, and/or a related engineering or science field.
• Fluency speaking, reading, and writing Spanish is a plus.

Special Requirements:
• Possession or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license within 30 days of hire
• Ability to occasionally travel overnight.
• Ability to perform moderate physical activity that includes, but is not limited to, bending, walking, and occasionally lifting and carrying loads up to 30 pounds.
• The selected candidate must pass a criminal background investigation.
