Columbia State Community College is hiring a full time, fiscal year/12-month, faculty position, providing leadership and supervision for the Nursing Program.  The director's responsibilities are distributed 80% administrative and 20% instructional load.  The director is responsible for leadership for all didactic and clinical activities, serves as primary liaison with clinical affiliates, and provides guidance for the campus lab.
 
This position is based at the Columbia, TN Campus.
 
Essential Functions:
  1. Provide leadership and supervision for the Nursing Program.
  2. Provide leadership for curriculum development, evaluation, and improvement.
  3. Coordinate administration of survey instruments and data collection/analysis required for continuous program improvement and programmatic accreditation.
  4. Represent the Nursing Program in meetings with appropriate state agencies and at meetings of the Nursing leaders from other state higher education institutions.
  5. Develop and staff nursing class schedules.
  6. Collaborate with the clinical coordinator to develop and staff clinical assignments/sections.
  7. Work with Health Science Records Clerk to initiate and maintain agreements with clinical agencies for nursing students.
  8. Advise nursing students on matters related to enrollment in nursing courses and facilitate resolution of any problems associated with program participation.
  9. Facilitate the resolution of student grievances related to academic policies, procedures, and personnel.
  10. Prepare and submit reports as required by the institution and/or state agencies for the nursing program.
  11. Monitor and evaluate the nursing program and provide input to the Dean for full time faculty evaluation and recommendations for promotion, tenure, and/or termination.
  12. Determine staffing needs and work with the Dean and Associate Vice President for Faculty and Programs in recruitment and hiring of faculty and staff. 
  13. Develop and manage program budgets, including coordination of purchases for all college locations.
  14. Ensure continued compliance with criteria for accreditation of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and other external accrediting agencies, including continued programmatic accreditation for Nursing.
  15. Interpret and ensure implementation and compliance in the areas supervised with Tennessee Board of Regents, Tennessee Higher Education Commission, and Columbia State policies.
  16. Maintain clinical affiliate relationships and ensure all accrediting agency requirements relative to clinical affiliates are met.
  17. Recruit, orient, supervise, and evaluate adjunct faculty with assistance from full time faculty.
  18. Oversee planning of student clinical rotations, coordinate clinical placements in cooperation with full time faculty, and work with the Health Sciences Records Clerk to ensure that appropriate documentation is on file for students, faculty and clinical affiliates.
  19. Remain current in teaching area(s) though appropriate professional development activities.
  20. Coordinate the ongoing review/revision of program admissions policies and oversee student selection.
  21. Ensure program faculty and students meet and maintain all licensure, program, and clinical access requirements.
  22. Ensure the program operates smoothly and responsibilities are completed in a timely manner.
  23. Promote the development and maintenance of an academic environment conducive to learning.
  24. Actively participate on division and institutional committees.
  25. Serve as liaison for the program to other college entities, other educational institutions, and the general public.
  26. Work with nursing lab coordinator/staff to ensure/maintain quality on-campus lab experiences for students.
 
Supplemental Functions:
  1. Actively participate in institutional and, as appropriate, community activities which support the institution's mission.
  2. Support and follow Columbia State, TBR, and SACSCOC policies and guidelines.
  3. Other duties as assigned.
 
Education, Training and Experience Required:
1. Master's degree in nursing.
2. Four to six years work experience in field.
3. Minimum three (3) years experience in full time instructional or administrative positions in an approved school of professional nursing.
4. Possession of or eligibility to obtain licensure as a registered nurse in Tennessee
5. BLS certification.
 
Preferred Qualifications  
1. Doctorate preferred.
2. Higher education teaching experience preferred.
 
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics:
 
1. Familiarity with the programmatic accreditation processes.
2. A broad understanding of nursing skills including foundations, medical-surgical, maternal/child, psychiatric, pediatric, and lifespan and pharmacology.
3. The ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English and in the language in which the course is taught.
4. The knowledge and/or experience to facilitate learning using a variety of institutional delivery methods.
5. The ability to relate to diverse faculty, staff and student population.
6. The ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and community members.
7. The ability to function effectively as a team leader.
 
Working Conditions:
 
1. Within a minimum workweek of 37.5 hours, the faculty members are expected to teach 
               assigned courses and maintain office hours as designated by the President.
2. Faculty members are expected to be available for day and evening responsibilities at any of 
               the institution's centers or sites.
3. Normal sitting and movement in a classroom or skills lab and the ability to manipulate and move audiovisual and lab equipment both in the classroom/lab and from one location to another.
 
Titles Supervised:
1.  Adjunct/part time nursing clinical instructors.
2.   Work-study students.
