Job Title: Coordinator of Student Activities

Job Grade: $41,343 - $51, 677

Campus Location: Walters State Community College Morristown Campus (Employees are assigned to a “home” location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)

Job Purpose: To maximize growth and development in students by providing a variety of opportunities for involvement and leadership in co-curricular activities. Campus activities supports the mission of the college by working to create experiential learning options and activities outside the classroom, as well as encouraging students to actively participate in the greater community.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Organize and execute activities and events, including international activities and events, designed to build community for students at all Walters State campuses. This includes night and weekend activities and events.
  • Recruit, supervise, advise, train, and mentor the Student Government Association. 
  • Supervise student organizations providing leadership and guidance related to College policies. Train student organization advisors and assist with questions and concerns. 
  • Oversee the international feel committee. Manage the planning and execution of international events.
  • Organize community service events for student, faculty, and staff participation.
  • Organize, plan, and facilitate the Academic Awards Banquet. 
  • Manage the campus activities and international activities budget.
  • Ensure needed documentation is timely submitted for events, follow College policies and procedures. 
  • Work with communications and marketing to create effective marketing strategies for programs and events. 
  • May perform other duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Demonstrated experience in student programming and campus activities.
  • Demonstrated appreciation for collaboration between student life and academic initiatives.
  • Demonstrated commitment to, understanding of, and experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse campus and community constituent groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and exercise sound judgement.

Leadership & Supervisory: 

  • The incumbent directly supervises the Student Government Association, work study students, and student organization Presidents.
  • The incumbent trains student organization advisors and will be required to train, advise, and mentor a group of student leaders.
  • The incumbent leads the International Fee Committee.
  • The supervisor provides general direction for the position, though tasks are mostly guided by broad policies and procedures. Work is evaluated on short to intermediate-term results, not necessarily on the procedures used to accomplish the objectives.

Environment & Working Conditions: A typical office environment that is occasionally noisy, clean, well lit, and temperature controlled. Organization of outdoor events could mean exposure to extreme cold, heat, and temperature changes. Frequent use of a keyboard could lead to stress injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome.

Physical Demands (including requirements for travel or working nights/weekends/holidays):

  • Requires ongoing verbal communication via telephone and in person.
  • Sits for long periods of time using a computer screen and a mouse and keyboard.
  • Travel throughout the college’s ten county service area is required.
