An exceptional opportunity exists for an experienced and commercially astute operations leader to take on the role of Luggage Services Manager on Rottnest Island—one of Western Australia’s most iconic tourism destinations.
Each year, hundreds of thousands of visitors arrive on the island via ferry, with a significant proportion staying overnight across a diverse accommodation portfolio including the Rottnest Island Authority (RIA) properties, Samphire Rottnest, Discovery Resorts, The Lodge, and Hotel Rottnest. Supporting this vibrant tourism ecosystem is a critical luggage handling operation, responsible for the safe and efficient movement of over 50,000+ pieces of luggage annually.
The Role
Reporting to the Island Operations Manager, you will oversee the end-to-end luggage services operation—from jetty collection through to accommodation delivery, and return ferry coordination on guest departure. This role goes beyond day-to-day supervision; it requires a strategic mindset to optimise service delivery, enhance the customer experience, and ensure commercial sustainability.
You will lead a dedicated team and work closely with ferry operators and accommodation providers to align logistics, streamline processes, and deliver seamless guest transitions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic oversight of luggage operations to ensure service excellence and KPI achievement
- Optimise workforce planning to balance service delivery with cost efficiency and margin protection
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with ferry operators and key stakeholders
- Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational performance and customer experience
- Monitor and manage financial performance, with clear accountability for P&L outcomes
- Ensure compliance with safety, operational, and service standards
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team in a dynamic, customer-focused environment
About You
You are a results-driven leader with a strong background in logistics, transport, tourism operations, or facilities management. You bring a commercial mindset and thrive in environments where operational efficiency and customer experience intersect.
You will demonstrate:
- Proven experience in managing large-scale logistics or service delivery operations
- Strong financial acumen, including budget management and margin optimisation
- Ability to think strategically while maintaining operational oversight
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
- Experience leading and developing teams in fast-paced environments
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with a commitment to continuous improvement
