About The Opportunity

Programmed Commercial Painting is seeking a driven Business Development Manager to join our small Commercial Painting team based in the Gisborne region. This is a full-time role primarily focused on driving business growth through the acquisition of new clients, while nurturing and expanding relationships with our existing customer base.

Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will be responsible for identifying and pursuing new business opportunities across a diverse range of industries within your territory. You’ll engage with key decision-makers, present tailored commercial solutions, and drive the sale of high-value, long-term service agreements.

As part of a small, growing team, this role will also involve supporting day-to-day branch operations. This includes contributing to safety initiatives (such as toolbox talks and safety conversations), assisting with basic administrative tasks, and working closely with on-the-ground trades to ensure smooth delivery. Full operational training will be provided.

This role involves developing persuasive proposals and navigating complex sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders. Your ability to build strong commercial relationships and deliver strategic, customer-focused outcomes will be critical to your success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Grow our Commercial Painting business across the Gisborne region.
  • Nurture and strengthen relationships with existing clients, ensuring their needs are met and exceeded.
  • Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities through cold calling, networking, and market research.
  • Utilize your sound sales history, particularly in trades and services, to effectively communicate the value of our products and services to potential customers.
  • Prepare accurate sales estimates and develop professional proposals.
  • Support branch operations in a small team environment, including basic administration (e.g. raising purchase orders)
  • Contribute to health & safety practices, including toolbox talks, safety conversations, and compliance processes
  • Utilise CRM systems to manage pipeline, track activity, and maintain accurate records

About you

To succeed in this role, you’ll need more than just a great sales history. We’re looking for someone with the BDM mindset - someone who takes initiative, chases opportunities, and builds value through relationships.

You’ll likely have:

  • Experience growing revenue from both new and existing clients
  • Strong relationship management and account development skills
  • A genuine drive to hunt for new business - cold calling, networking, and prospecting come naturally to you
  • A solutions-focused approach, with the ability to understand and sell service-based offerings
  • The ability to maintain a strong and profitable sales pipeline
  • Confidence managing full sales cycles, from lead generation to close
  • Excellent influencing, communication & presentation skills
  • A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to support operational tasks when required
  • Solid computer skills (Word, Excel, CRM systems)
