About The Opportunity

At Programmed Facility Management, we manage complex, asset‑intensive environments, and we believe continual improvement is driven by curiosity, collaboration and the courage to challenge “how it’s always been done.”

We are seeking an experienced Continuous Improvement/Reliability Engineer to join our Melbourne Water contract. This is a full‑time position, primarily located at our Brooklyn Melbourne Water site, reporting to the Continuous Improvement Manager, and working as part of a high‑performing, multidisciplinary team. This is a hands‑on, influential role where your ideas will shape how we maintain, optimise and future‑proof critical assets.

You’ll be trusted to explore new technologies, apply smart engineering thinking, and turn insights into real‑world improvements that deliver safety, reliability, sustainability and long‑term value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the identification and delivery of continuous improvement initiatives across maintenance and asset management activities
  • Develop, review, and optimise asset performance and maintenance strategies to improve reliability, availability, and lifecycle outcomes
  • Analyse asset, maintenance, and failure data to support root cause analysis, risk‑based decision‑making, and performance reporting
  • Review maintenance plans, job plans, and work practices to drive efficiency, consistency, and value
  • Translate condition monitoring reports into clear actions, priorities, and engineering recommendations
  • Support operational teams with technical problem‑solving and engineering guidance on complex assets
  • Work collaboratively with planners, site teams, and stakeholders to ensure improvements are practical, implemented, and sustained
  • Embed HSEQ and risk management principles into engineering and improvement activities
  • Integrate sustainability and life‑cycle thinking into asset performance, maintenance strategies, and improvement initiatives

About You

You are an experienced engineering or continuous improvement professional who enjoys working close to operations and seeing tangible outcomes from your ideas. You combine analytical thinking with strong stakeholder engagement and are motivated by improving how systems perform over time. You will typically bring:

  • Experience in a Continuous Improvement, Reliability Engineering, or Maintenance (Electrical or Mechanical) role, preferably in asset intensive environments
  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent proven industry experience
  • A genuine interest in innovation, improvement, and emerging technologies applied in practical ways
  • Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies (certification is valued but not essential)
  • An understanding of how sustainability, asset life‑cycle performance, and long‑term value creation influence engineering and maintenance decisions
  • Strong data analysis, reporting, and problem solving skills
  • Working knowledge of CMMS platforms such as Maximo, SAP, or Pronto
  • Confidence engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Clear, considered written and verbal communication skills
  • A strong commitment to safety, wellbeing, and respectful teamwork
