The opportunity:

Based in Melbourne, the Category Business Manager Ethical/OTC is responsible for developing and implementing strategic category management plans to grow market share, volume, revenue across Symbion wholesale, Pharmacy Choice and healthSAVE members.

What you will do:

  • Develop category management strategies that will satisfy the requirements of all parties ie: Symbion, Pharmacy Choice and healthSAVE members, supplier partners and customers;
  • Understand and manage changes to PBS products that are driven by Government and regulatory bodies;
  • Ensure all ranged products meet required/agreed hurdle rates/support from Symbion brands and groups;
  • Plan promotional activity with suppliers to promote new and existing products to grow mutual business;
  • Negotiate deals for Symbion Wholesale, Pharmacy Choice and healthSAVE members;
  • Presenting new partnering ideas and concepts to suppliers to drive Symbion business and maximise commercial outcomes;
  • Understand impact the Generic manufacturers and patent expiries have in the pharmaceuticals market;
  • Negotiation with suppliers the exit strategy for clearance of coded product;
  • Regular communication across all areas of the wholesale distribution business;
  • Forecasting and management of inventory levels;
  • Balancing multiple priorities with overlapping timelines that require a mix of skills;
  • Get buy in from the greater team to support your category strategies;
  • Working in a dynamic environment requiring realignment of priorities;
  • Work with the National Merchandise Manager, Merchandise Head of Pharmacy Choice & healthSAVE on strategy and business development

What we are looking for:

  • Tertiary qualifications in pharmacy and business management;
  • Pharmacist background with relevant work experience in Ethical/OTC category management roles;
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic category management plans to grow market share, volume, revenue and create sustainable competitive advantage
  • Commercial acumen (understanding COGS, margin, pricing & forecasting)
  • Proven experience in meeting key financial metrics. 
  • Proved ability to negotiate with suppliers achieving commercial outcomes.
  • Very strong knowledge of the Australian Pharmaceuticals industry including the PBS & CSO.
  • Very strong negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage other people, their tasks, time and professional development
  • Ability to work in a group and autonomously
  • Strong stakeholder management, relationship building, and communication skills
  • Strong influencing and presentation skills
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
