The Opportunity
Are you an ambitious microbiologist eager to make a significant impact in infectious disease research? Monash University’s Lyras Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow (Microbiology) to contribute to cutting-edge research in molecular microbiology, bacteriology, and in vivo infection modeling.
In this role, you will:
- Conduct independent and team-based research, contributing to high-impact publications and conference presentations
- Provide expertise in molecular microbiology, bacteriology, and genetics, including bacterial cultivation, PCR, bacterial mutagenesis, and cloning
- Co-supervise students and contribute to the academic environment
- Support research funding applications and laboratory administration
- Work with advanced laboratory techniques and in vivo disease models (animal work experience desirable but not essential)
We’re looking for candidates with:
- A doctoral qualification (or significant progress toward one) in microbiology or a related field
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and manuscript preparation skills with a track record of refereed research publications
- Excellent organizational and project administration skills
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Proficiency in relevant laboratory techniques and software
