The Opportunity

The Manager – Hybrid Cloud Platforms plays a critical leadership role in shaping and delivering Monash University’s hybrid cloud infrastructure services across both private and public cloud environments. The role is responsible for ensuring these platforms remain secure, resilient, scalable and aligned with the University’s strategic and operational priorities.

Leading the Hybrid Cloud Platforms and Delivery teams, you will drive service reliability, operational excellence and continuous improvement while fostering a high-performing and collaborative team culture. You will work closely with colleagues across Infrastructure Services, eSolutions and the broader University to design and deliver modern, automated and highly observable infrastructure platforms that support teaching, research and enterprise services at scale.

This role offers the opportunity to influence strategic infrastructure direction, lead major platform initiatives and strengthen governance, lifecycle management and cost optimisation across the University’s hybrid cloud environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Hybrid Cloud Platforms and Delivery teams, fostering a high-performing culture through effective leadership, workforce development and succession planning.

  • Manage and optimise Monash’s hybrid cloud environment across AWS, Azure and private cloud infrastructure, ensuring strong governance, security, resilience and cost efficiency.

  • Oversee the operational performance and lifecycle management of private cloud platforms, including compute, storage, virtualisation and supporting infrastructure.

  • Drive automation, monitoring, observability and AI-enabled operations to improve reliability, reduce manual effort and enable proactive service management.

  • Lead strategic initiatives and collaborate with stakeholders and vendors to deliver secure, compliant and scalable infrastructure services aligned with University priorities.

To be successful in the role:

  • Proven experience leading and developing high-performing technical teams with a collaborative, accountable, service-focused culture.

  • Strong experience managing hybrid cloud and private infrastructure, ensuring availability, performance, resilience and security.

  • Experience in workforce planning, capability development and succession planning to build sustainable teams.

  • Financial and vendor management expertise, including budgeting, forecasting and cost optimisation for infrastructure investment.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive automation, monitoring, observability and AI-enabled operations to improve efficiency and reliability.

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, influencing and communication skills, providing strategic technology advice aligned with organisational and regulatory requirements
