The Opportunity
Calling all Mechanical/Mechatronics and Structural Engineering graduates – we have a fantastic opportunity for you to join the Maintenance Technology Institute (MTI) and be part of a highly integrated multidisciplinary team of engineering specialists with a proven track record!
The Maintenance Technology Institute (MTI), a part of the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at Monash University, is focused on applied research aligned with the mining industry, working with some of the biggest organisations in Australia to improve heavy mining equipment performance and longevity.
In MTI you will utilise your engineering expertise to support the team undertaking applied research on heavy engineering equipment, such as draglines, excavators, hydraulic and electric shovels as well as other mobile equipment and processing plants, used in the mining industry. Engaging in a range of activities, such as data analysis and interpretation, supporting the continuous operation of the remote monitoring systems, as well as field work, you will support and deliver outcomes aligned with our large commercial research partnerships and contracts.
Key focus areas of the role:
- Support the planning and scheduling field work to suit site requirements and MTI resource availability
- Undertake data analysis and interpretation, including detailed stress analysis from field measurements, to derive necessary conclusions and reporting
- Work with Remote Services team to maintain data integrity on our fleet of large mining equipment monitoring systems
- Build and advance client relationships ensuring that exceptional product and service quality is maintained
- Conduct field work as required
- Undertake simulation of structural, mechanical or electrical sub systems of equipment as relevant using either commercial software or general methods of analysis
About You
The successful candidate will have a degree in mechanical/mechatronics or structural engineering, and understanding of relevant Australian and International standards. They will also exhibit:
- Demonstrate technical and analytical proficiency in structural or mechanical engineering. Previous experience in the field would be highly desirable
- Ability to liaise with customers to identify project needs and deliver project outcomes professionally
- Well‐developed organisational and time management skills, including the ability to plan and organise work to meet priorities and deadlines
- Sound computer literacy, including the ability to learn new software packages
- Highly developed written and presentation skills and an outstanding ability to plan, organise, and establish priorities
MTI has completed over 300 case studies and repeatedly delivered significant returns on investment in providing superior economic and technical solutions for a broad range of industry clients.
This is an exciting opportunity to join MTI and utilise state-of-the-art assessment/quantification techniques - modelling and analysis, measurement, instrumentation and data acquisition, remote sensing. With state-of-the-art facilities; Laboratories - Field instrumentation and data acquisition and processing, Testing facilities - component strength and fatigue testing, metallographic and failure analysis.
All positions have a requirement to be flexible to undertake interstate travel, field work, and respond to emergency or urgent work to fulfil customer needs.
