The Opportunity

Monash University is proud to invite applications for a Research Fellow (Level B) to join the newly established ARC Laureate Fellowship research program led by Professor Alex Collie, one of Australia’s most influential scholars in work disability, workers’ compensation and social protection systems.

Backed by a $3.8 million Australian Research Council Laureate Fellowship, this flagship research program will modernise Australia’s work disability support systems by developing new evidence-based tools and policy models that improve participant outcomes, reduce long-term work disability and strengthen national productivity.

This is a rare opportunity to join a high-impact, multidisciplinary team at the very beginning of a nationally significant research initiative.

About the Role

This position will lead a major project focused on the development and validation of participant-reported experience measures for people interacting with Australian workers’ compensation and social security systems. Working in close collaboration with Professor Collie and the broader Laureate Fellowship team, the successful candidate will:

  • Design, test, refine and validate survey-based participant experience measures
  • Lead cohort recruitment and quantitative data collection
  • Undertake advanced statistical analysis and publication of findings
  • Contribute to translation of findings into policy and system reform
  • Play a leading role in project management, reporting and stakeholder engagement
  • Co-supervise a PhD student aligned with the project
  • Contribute across other major projects within the ARC Laureate Fellowship portfolio

This role offers exceptional scope for intellectual leadership, career development, national policy impact and international collaboration.

About Professor Alex Collie and the Program

Professor Collie is Director of the Healthy Working Lives Research Group and the Division of Health Systems, Services and Policy within the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University. He is an ARC Laureate Fellow, President of the Scientific Committee on Work Disability Prevention for the International Commission on Occupational Health, and a member of the Australian Research Council College of Experts.

His research spans work injury rehabilitation, occupational health, workers’ compensation, motor vehicle injury compensation and disability insurance systems. The Laureate Fellowship builds on his nationally and internationally funded research programs and establishes a new research centre of excellence at Monash.

About You

You will bring disciplinary expertise in psychology, allied health, social sciences, behavioural science, or a related field, together with strong quantitative research capability and a passion for participant-centred system reform.

Essential qualifications and experience include:

  • A doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline, or equivalent research experience
  • Demonstrated statistical analysis capability and a strong publication track record
  • Experience contributing to competitive research funding proposals
  • Capacity to supervise and mentor research staff and PhD students
  • High-level organisational, communication and project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team
  • Advanced experience with analytical software such as R Studio, STATA or SPSS
  • Highly desirable: Experience in participant-reported experience measures and/or participant-reported outcome studies
