About the position
The La Trobe Rural Health School (LRHS) is the largest rural health school in Australia. The LRHS is based at all four regional campuses of the University: Bendigo, Mildura, Shepparton and Albury-Wodonga.
The LRHS has a growing number of international students enrolled across the regional campuses.
Reporting to the LRHS Associate Dean- Academic Partnerships and the Senior Manager Student Advising Programs, the primary purpose of this position is to:
- Facilitate the delivery of support services, community engagement and transition programs to LRHS international students on the Bendigo, Shepparton, Albury-Wodonga and Mildura campuses.
- Educate staff and students on intercultural competence and policy and procedures relevant to international students.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Provision of information, limited pastoral care and referral to other University services and external agencies as appropriate to on-shore international students, with respect to matters such as adjustment, homesickness, family problems, academic progress, health and finance.
- Development of new and co-ordination and linking into existing student engagement programs that address the social inclusion needs of international students.
- Contribute to the development of community engagement programs with local Councils, clubs and other key community stakeholders
- In collaboration with Student Advising and Student life to support the delivery of the International Student orientation sessions.
- In collaboration with the LRHS Clinical Academic Coordinators and the Placement Partners and Operations team to ensure international students’ placements are geographically close to their enrolled campus, and able to be supported by academic staff
- In collaboration with the LRHS Clinical Academic Coordinators, work with clinical placement partners to ensure international students are allocated clinical placements that are culturally safe and supportive
- In collaboration with Senior Manager in Student Advising develop and deliver training for University staff and students on cross-cultural communication and administrative procedures.
Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have:
- An undergraduate degree in any area relevant to the position with at least 4 years subsequent experience; or extensive experience and management expertise; or an equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills, including ability to tailor communication styles to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated organisational skills and ability to solve complex problems in an autonomous manner and with sound judgment.
- Demonstrated management of short term and long-term projects, and the ability to work both as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision, as required.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to the continuous improvement of systems and processes in a service-oriented environment.
