About the position
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences seeks to appoint an outstanding academic to a continuing full-time position as either Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C) in Gender, Sexuality, and Diversity Studies. This role encompasses Teaching, Research and Academic service.
The successful incumbent will be required to contribute to excellence in teaching and learning across several subjects in our Gender, Sexuality, and Diversity Studies major, which is part of the Bachelor of Arts at La Trobe University. You will work collaboratively to develop and renew the curriculum. You will be expected to contribute to excellence in research, through publications and effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree Research students.
The successful applicant will pursue an active scholarly research agenda that aligns with La Trobe University’s Research Strategy and helps the School to develop new relationships with government organisations, community groups and industry partners, both nationally and internationally. The School encourages applicants from all areas of GSDS or cognate disciplines to apply. We especially welcome applications from candidates demonstrating expertise in critical, intersectional, and feminist perspectives in one or more of the following areas: postcolonial or decolonial studies; trans and queer theory; or critical disability studies.
Duties at this level will include:
- Contribute to excellence in teaching and learning across several subjects in our Gender, Sexuality, and Diversity Studies major.
- Contribute to curriculum development in the Gender, Sexuality, and Diversity Studies major.
- Work collaboratively and effectively with other staff in the Gender, Sexuality, and Diversity Studies major and in the School.
- Conduct and lead innovative and high impact research and produce conference and seminar papers and publications resulting from that research.
- Contribute to building a robust and ambitious research culture within La Trobe.
Skills and knowledge required for the position:
- A PhD with specialisation in Gender, Sexuality and Diversity Studies, or cognate disciplines.
- Demonstrated knowledge of theories relevant to teaching subjects in Gender, Sexuality and Diversity Studies.
- Demonstrated capacity for excellence in research in an area of immediate and direct relevance to Gender, Sexuality and Diversity Studies, with a preference for research demonstrating expertise in critical, intersectional, and feminist perspectives in one or more of the following areas: postcolonial or decolonial studies; trans and queer theory; or critical disability studies.
- Ability to develop research-relevant relationships with government organisations, community groups and industry partners, both nationally and internationally
