About the position
Research Performance plays a critical role in advancing La Trobe University’s research and innovation impact, global reputation and compliance outcomes. The team leads the development, analysis and communication of research and innovation data for both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring information is accurate, accessible and strategically aligned. Working in close collaboration with Schools, central portfolios, and external bodies including research funders, data providers and ranking agencies the team drives continuous improvement in how research performance is measured, communicated and used to inform strategic decisions.
The Senior Manager, Research Performance provides high level advice to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Industry Engagement), academic leaders and professional staff on research performance and its broader context. The role is responsible for delivering insightful analysis to support the implementation of the University’s research and innovation strategy, as well as leading the development and execution of the institutional ranking’s strategy.
Some of your duties will include:
- Lead the Research Performance team to deliver high-quality analysis, reporting and continuous improvement in research and innovation performance.
- Provide strategic advice to senior leadership on research performance, rankings and evaluation frameworks.
- Oversee accurate and timely submissions to government and ranking bodies to support the University’s reputation and compliance.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of the University’s research and innovation strategy.
- Collaborate with schools, portfolios and central teams to ensure performance insights inform academic and business planning.
- Drive the development and maintenance of research systems in partnership with key stakeholders.
- Stay ahead of emerging trends in research analytics, including AI/ML, and maintain relationships with key external bodies.
- Contribute to leadership across the research office and lead major strategic projects as required.
Skills & Experience:
- Postgraduate qualifications and/or extensive experience in strategic policy and organisational leadership.
- Strong understanding of higher education and research, including global trends, ranking systems and quality assessment.
- Proven ability to lead and implement strategy in complex environments working collaboratively with senior stakeholders.
- Skilled in using research performance data to inform decisions.
- Strong leadership, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Excellent communication and representation skills, with experience engaging high level stakeholders.
- Demonstrated success in managing complex projects, stakeholder strategies and working across organisational boundaries.
- Sound financial, budgeting and change management experience, including technology enabled initiatives.
