Are you an experienced HR generalist with a passion for leadership, service excellence, and operational impact? Join La Trobe’s People & Culture team as the lead for our AskP&C frontline service. You’ll ensure consistent, timely, and high-quality advice across the University, shaping the way we support staff and leaders in a dynamic and values-driven environment.

At La Trobe University, we’re strengthening our People & Culture service delivery model and seeking a confident and capable People & Culture Consultant to lead our frontline advisory team. As the day-to-day lead of the AskP&C function, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the delivery of consistent, timely, and high-quality people advice across the University. This is your opportunity to drive great service, uplift leader capability, and be a visible force for people-focused solutions.

With a focus on responsiveness, problem-solving, and values-aligned outcomes, this role is critical in shaping how we support staff and leaders across a complex and dynamic environment. You’ll manage complex people matters, lead a high-performing team, and work closely with Strategic Business Partners to support the broader people agenda.

This is a unique opportunity for a strong HR generalist with a coaching mindset and service excellence at their core.

What you will doing

  • Coordinate the ASK P&C function—ensuring frontline people advisory services align with our Client Service Delivery Framework.
  • Triage operational issues and complex cases, escalating appropriately to Strategic Business Partners as needed.
  • Operationalise policy, legislation, and enterprise agreements with accuracy and clarity.
  • Coach manager and leader capability—providing tools, training, and responsive guidance.
  • Refine and streamline operational workflows—tools, knowledge libraries, triage guidelines—to enhance efficiencies.
  • Track service trends, identify workforce risk areas, and contribute to continuous service improvements.

What you will bring to the role

  • HR generalist or consultant experience (min. 4 years or equivalent) in a complex organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of HR policies, enterprise agreements, industrial frameworks, and employment law.
  • Proven ability to lead operational teams or advisory services (service standards, continuous improvement).
  • Capability to coach and influence stakeholders across diverse levels.
  • Excellent prioritisation, problem-solving, and resilience skills.
  • High personal accountability, initiative, and integrity handling confidential matters.
