Following the consolidation of the property planning and quarry development teams, an opportunity exists for a Brisbane based Planning and Development Lead to manage the Qld, NT and WA regional team. The team is responsible for the management of our quarry reserves and resources and securing Boral's right to operate across our integrated network. With asset accountability for ~130 sites including quarries, concrete and asphalt plants, this role holds direct responsibility for attaining and maintaining statutory approvals, and managing the quarry resource and reserve positions.

As a leadership position with a team of ~6 direct reports, including planning and development managers, resource geologist, mining engineer and quarry development specialist, this role involves coaching, mentoring, and leading a team of professionals. Operating at a Project Director level, you will oversee a portfolio of multiple projects across a large region. A key focus of this strategic role is to identify priorities and lead the team to deliver positive planning and quarry asset position outcomes, by translating strategies into practical performance targets and action plans.

Your day will involve:      

  • Overseeing all property planning matters for sites within the region, including communicating compliance obligations to the operational teams as it relates to a site’s planning consent.
  • Securing quarry reserve life, ensuring the team is identifying and scoping viable reserve extensions for short-life quarries and managing quarry reserves and resources, targeting 10+ years of reserves at each operating quarry
  • Managing Quarry resources and reserves, ensuring resources and reserves are understood through geological assessment, ensuring we have mine plans at each operating site to optimise quarrying activities., and development activities are underway to secure future resources and reserves
  • Driving standardisation across the team including developing policies, procedures and systems for planning and approval services, ensuring the operations teams are provided with accurate and consistent data from the team’s subject matter experts
  • Influencing and negotiation with regulators and representing Boral at community, government and industry meetings
  • Developing and managing budgets and programs of work across the regional team in collaboration with regional operational management
  • Managing strategic planning input into the acquisition, divestment, negotiation and documentation of freehold and leasehold interests.

What are we looking for?

  • Significant experience in the property, planning, development, environmental engineering or environmental impact assessment, responsibility for a property portfolio or property related development projects.
  • Experience in the extractive industry with a focus on the planning and development field within a corporate or professional organisation
  • Experience in managing diverse teams across a diverse range of sites that drive to delivery planning and development solutions with consideration for needs and expectations of key stakeholders with consideration for key stakeholders
  • Proven ability to negotiate and communicate with external stakeholders, senior management, government and statutory authorities to secure planning and development outcomes including tenure and the right to operate.
