Your next opportunity:

Based in the North Ryde Head Office, the Tax Manager is an integral member of the Boral tax function with responsibility for managing tax compliance and reporting across Boral, contributing to strong tax governance and risk management and ensuring the organisation meets all statutory tax obligations. The Tax Manager is a trusted business partner, working closely with the broader commercial, legal and operational teams, as well as the ultimate parent entity (SGH Limited) to support strategic commercial decision-making.

You will have responsibility for the following functions:

  • Tax compliance and reporting

    • Manage end-to-end income tax compliance for all Boral Group entities, including preparation of annual income tax returns, schedules and supporting workpapers.
    • Review and ensure compliance with tax obligations across GST/business activity statements (BAS), FBT and other employment taxes (e.g. superannuation guarantee, payroll tax), withholding taxes.
    • Review of material fixed asset register additions and other capital costs.
    • Preparation of disclosures for Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR), Pillar 2 and other Tax Transparency reporting for inclusion in parent entity reports.
    • Preparation of the Boral group’s monthly income tax instalments and assist with tax/cashflow forecasting
    • Prepare tax effect accounting calculations and reconciliations, reporting outcomes and assisting with external audit review.
    • Assistance with ATO and other revenue authority reviews.

    Tax advisory

    • Support business units with consideration and analysis of the tax impacts of commercial transactions and agreements.
    • Provide support on internal projects involving restructures and business/asset acquisitions or disposals.
    • Collaborate with external advisers on specific tax technical issues as required.
    • Promote tax awareness across the business through training, education and guidance on tax obligations, opportunities and risks.

    Tax governance

    • Ensure documentation and working papers are maintained to support tax filings and tax positions taken
    • Monitor internal controls over tax processes and identify potential risks or compliance gaps.
    • Maintain GST governance in accordance with the ATO guidelines and ensure GST controls testing is undertaken on a periodic basis.
    • Assistance with internal reporting and compliance obligations, and maintaining governance processes in line with the SGH Group’s Tax Risk Management Policy.

    Innovation and continuous improvement

    • Investigate, recommend and implement tax compliance and reporting improvement initiatives including the use of technology solutions to streamline/enhance workflows where appropriate.
    • Help maintain and enhance tax systems and reporting tools (e.g., Oracle, tax software, excel models).
    • Keep up-to-date with relevant tax law changes and provide input into process updates or system configurations.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in tax, preferably in a similar industry
  • Strong working knowledge of Australian corporate income tax, GST and FBT
  • Proficient in Tax Effect Accounting
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with income tax software (e.g. CCH Integrator), Indirect Tax Edge, OneSource FBT and Oracle would be advantageous
