The Technical Services Manager is a critical role in the cement manufacturing process and is accountable for providing overall leadership, management, and technical control of the Boral Cement Central Laboratory at Berrima in accordance with its Service Level Agreement with Sales and Operations nationally. This role extends to ensuring accurate and cost-effective Quality Assurance testing and reporting is undertaken as well as the provision of technical support to operations and sales for product and process development, quality improvements and investigations. This leadership role is focused on providing coaching, mentoring and training support to a small team with the ultimate objective of ensuring that Boral’s products are safe and durable.
Your day will involve:
- Manage Laboratory reference and proficiency testing programs to ensure a high level of test accuracy and precision is maintained for all Quality Assurance testing methods used and developed.
- Ensure ongoing compliance of testing activities with customer specifications and relevant published standards.
- Manage the testing and reporting (NATA Certificates, Manufacturing Data Reports) of raw material and Quality Assurance samples for clinker, cement, limestone and lime products from Boral Cement production facilities nationally.
- Collaborate with and facilitate process improvement across all Boral Cement Laboratories nationally.
- Develop and manage Laboratory equipment assurance program and manage projects related to the introduction of new technical processes, including new test methods or equipment.
- Provide technical support for programs to investigate methods of improving Quality Control and products as well as for investigations into product quality issues through root cause analysis.
- Provide technical support for product development and Boral’s decarbonisation initiatives
- Control operating budget for Laboratory.
What are we looking for?
- Demonstrated experience in a construction materials laboratory environment or from heavy manufacturing industry with product testing processes.
- Bachelor Degree held in either Manufacturing, Chemistry, Materials Science/Engineering, Geology, Chemical or Civil Engineering or Applied Science (Chemistry).
- High level of knowledge of ISO 17025 requirements and NATA accreditation criteria
- Experience in managing a small team.
- In depth knowledge of statistical process control methodologies and of Quality Control and Quality Assurance testing equipment.
- Strong understanding of principles of measurement, test methods, measurement uncertainty and significance of test results generated.
