The Head of Finance - Cement partners with EGMs, GMs and operational management for strategic actions, transformation implementation, capital, margin maximisation and other ad hoc projects. This critical leadership role provides financial leadership to improve decision support and commercial focus, therefore driving superior commercial and financial outcomes. This includes developing the financial literacy within the business, driving business performance including supporting Boral's Continuous and Value Improvement Programs, providing independent financial perspectives to senior leaders, and supporting customer and general commercial arrangements (pricing, credit, risk, dispute resolution, contracts). The Head of Finance works closely with the business to affect the development and effectiveness of Business Strategy and ensures that capital expenditure business cases are appropriately developed and that investment decisions meet company hurdles.
Your day will involve:
- Provide deep commercial insight and partnering to executive leaderships in optimising business performance through sound capital investment decisions, rigorous continuous improvement processes and the execution of transformational initiatives.
- Provide financial leadership across the businesses to unlock growth, through identifying, developing and/or investing in, and delivering new and disruptive technologies through scalable and profitable solutions
- Promote financial understanding for all key commercial drivers, including market, price, supply vs. demand, investment and projects
- Utilise information from Accounting & Transactional Services and FP&A to provide insight and data-driven strategic commercial decision-making support to operational leaders and managers.
- Use financial targets benchmarks, models and performance metrics to drive the Cement business unit's strategic decision making and performance
- Lead business short-term and long-term investment strategy development and execution
- Provide financial leadership in business portfolio and network optimisation for short-term and long-term
- Makes a constant improvement to short- and medium-term business performance by recommending authoritative financial, technical, operational and commercial solutions
- Leverage financial perspective across the Cement business unit to improve risk awareness, strategic decision making and integrated performance management
- Provide sound commercial insight to operations to deliver profitable and sustainable growth across their business unit(s) including determining cost effectiveness of growth strategies and ensuring approved capital investment decisions deliver on benefits
- Strong input into the preparation and delivery of operating budgets and forecasts for the Cement business unit in accordance with Group requirements with strong support of central resources
- Partner with relevant EGM, GMs, Operations and Sales Managers in their review of project profitability and performance
- Participate in Joint-Venture boards, ensuring appropriate governance and protection of Boral’s interests
- Provide input into audit, governance, risk and compliance for the Cement business unit
- Provide support to Supply Chain optimisation and S&OP process for the Cement business unit.
What are we looking for?
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business, Finance or Economics
- 10+ years senior finance management experience in a manufacturing, logistics and sales environment
- Wide and deep experience providing expert advice on financial outcomes pertaining to sales, logistics and operations in large and complex industrial or manufacturing businesses.
- CA/CPA preferred
- MBA or Masters preferred
