The Commercial Analyst leads the delivery of business improvement projects and profit improvement plans across the NSW Quarries business. The role will provide a commercial lens to operational improvements by identifying, quantifying and tracking progress of revenue, cost and productivity opportunities that convert directly into improved business outcomes.

The role will be required to collaborate and partner across all levels of the organisation to ensure a detailed understanding of business processes, whilst being able to effectively communicate and provide recommendations to senior executives. The role challenges the business through insightful analysis, highlighting opportunities to improve business outcomes, and works to build financial literacy within the business.

Regular travel to quarries across NSW is required in this role in order to build the on-the-ground relationships needed to influence site and operations leaders, form deep understanding of process and test and track progress. The role challenges the business through independent, evidence-based analysis, highlighting opportunities to improve business outcomes, and builds financial and commercial literacy of the operations, supply chain and sales teams.

Your day will involve:

  • Leverage financial perspective across business units to improve risk awareness, strategic decision making and integrated performance management.
  • Provide sound financial insight to operations to deliver profitable and sustainable growth across their business units including determining cost effectiveness of growth strategies and ensuring approved capital investments deliver on benefits.
  • Plan, lead and track business improvement projects and profit improvement plans from conceptualisation and scoping through to benefit realisation.
  • Engage with site operations with presence onsite across the quarry business to engage plant and operations leaders, supply chain and sales to validate data and financial controls at the source and influence the adoption of improvement initiatives on the ground.
  • Build business cases in relation to improvement opportunities and capital projects expenditure processes for the business unit(s) ensuring that investment decisions meet or exceed company hurdles.
  • Identify value adding opportunities in revenue, productivity and cost through the application of insightful financial analysis tools.
  • Integrate financial analysis tools into operational decision making.
  • Lead and manage business improvement projects and profit improvement plans spanning systems and process change, from site-based diagnosis through to sign-off on delivered benefits.
  • Lead master data improvements and mapping to streamline and automate the reporting process.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
  • Experience with dealing with large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
  • Operational experience in, process improvement, forecasting and budgeting, and aggregation of data into views that can be presented at Executive level.
  • Prior experience in external or internal audit, risk, or process assurance is highly regarded.
  • Experience in statistical forecasting and advanced skills in Excel including advanced lookups (Index match Xlookup, Power Query etc.).
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly to regional and quarry sites across NSW to build relationships and influence outcomes on the ground.
