Your next opportunity
With safety prioritised above all else at Boral, we look out for each other and are committed to zero harm across our vast, vertically-integrated national business. An opportunity exists for a proactive and passionate Health & Safety Business Partner to join our national Health and Safety team to specifically support our significant Alternative Fuels and Alternative Raw Materials capital projects at Berrima Cement Works.
The Health & Safety Business Partner provides expert health and safety technical advice to support safe and compliant project delivery across planning, construction, integration, commissioning and handover phases. Operating within a live brownfield environment, this critical role works closely with Project Managers, Construction Managers, site operations and contractors to identify and manage risks, monitor control effectiveness, and ensure compliance with health and safety systems and legislative requirements. A key expectation of this role is to actively shape and reinforce a strong safety‑first mindset across all contractors and staff on site, influencing behaviours and decision‑making so that safe outcomes are prioritised at all times. In addition, the role is expected to lead, embed and sustain structured field leadership and safety observation practices, coaching project teams and contractors to consistently apply these activities as part of daily site execution.
This is a 20 month fixed term role and will be based at our Berrima Cement Works in New Berrima, NSW.
Your day will involve:
- Provide health and safety advice and guidance across all project phases (design, construction, commissioning, handover)
- Maintain and monitor project risk registers to ensure risks reflect current project conditions
- Facilitate critical risk and pre-execution workshops
- Review and monitor WHS Management Plans, SWMS, permits and contractor documentation
- Support planning and safe execution of shutdowns, tie ins and commissioning and energisation
- Conduct regular site safety walks, inspections and audits to verify behaviour and control effectiveness
- Lead structured field leadership activities, including regular safety observations, visible leadership engagements on site and behavioural safety discussions with workers and supervisors
- Coach and teach supervisors, Project Managers and contractors on how to conduct effective safety observations and field leadership activities
- Establish consistent standards for quality and effectiveness of safety observations, ensuring they focus on meaningful risk identification and behavioural reinforcement
- Facilitate toolbox talks, pre starts and safety meetings
- Deliver training, inductions and competency support for project teams
- Lead incident investigations and ensure robust corrective actions
- Monitor safety performance and identify trends to drive preventative action
- Champion visible safety leadership, engaging directly with contractors and staff and actively challenging unsafe behaviours or decisions.
What are we looking for?
- Demonstrated health and safety experience in construction, civil, or infrastructure projects, including exposure to demolition works.
- Minimum Certificate IV Work Health and Safety and Construction White Card.
- Experience supporting brownfield or live plant projects
- Strong risk management and critical risk understanding
- Experience in construction safety and/or commissioning environments
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and HSEQ systems
- Experience delivering HSEQ training, toolbox talks and coaching project teams and contractors.
- Experience conducting site inspections, safety walks, audits and monitoring the effectiveness of controls.
