Based at North Ryde, this newly created leadership role offers the opportunity to lead a small team, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and partner with stakeholders across the organisation to deliver an exceptional payroll experience.

Reporting to the Head of Payroll, you will lead a small team of Payroll Support Officers and act as the key escalation point for complex payroll matters. You'll combine strong technical payroll expertise with leadership capability to improve processes, strengthen governance and deliver meaningful outcomes for both employees and the business.

Your day will involve:

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of Payroll Support Officers to deliver exceptional customer-focused payroll services.
  • Manage complex payroll enquiries and escalations, ensuring timely and accurate resolution.
  • Drive payroll projects, system enhancements and process improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and operational efficiencies across payroll processes.
  • Ensure payroll compliance through effective governance, controls, reconciliations and audit readiness.
  • Review payroll reporting and provide insights to support business decision-making.
  • Partner closely with HR, Finance, IT and external providers to deliver sustainable payroll solutions.
  • Champion service excellence and continuously improve the employee experience.

What are we looking for?

  • Proven experience leading or supervising payroll teams within a medium to large organisation.
  • Extensive end-to-end payroll experience across both weekly and monthly payrolls.
  • Strong working knowledge of Chris21/iChris payroll systems.
  • Sound understanding of payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation, Fair Work requirements and Enterprise Agreements.
  • Experience managing complex payroll scenarios including terminations, redundancies, leave payments and back pays.
  • Strong payroll governance, compliance and reconciliation expertise.
  • Advanced Excel, reporting and data analysis skills.
  • Experience supporting remuneration reviews and compensation & benefits activities.
  • A continuous improvement mindset with the ability to influence and build strong stakeholder relationships.
