Associate Veterinarian in Community Animal Medicine and Health
(Level A) $78,544 - $105,611 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.
Part-time (0.4 FTE), fixed term position until 19 December 2025
New, exciting, part-time, fixed term role working closely with the Head of the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences (SAVS) on a special project, to investigate, establish and develop a community animal health and management program for participation in by SAVS students and staff.
Engagement with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders will be expected. Very active community interest has presented a wide range of possible activities for SAVS student involvement in helping to support community animal health and management activities around Adelaide and northern South Australia. These include, as possible examples, Indigenous communities, low socioeconomic groups within the population and other pet owners who have very limited (or no) access to a regular basic veterinary service. At least three pilot activities are planned for 2025, and a coordinated sustainable plan is needed for wider activities from 2026 onwards.
This role would suit a veterinarian with small companion animal clinical experience who is interested in sustainable community animal support work. Some time will be spent on the Roseworthy Campus of the University of Adelaide and other, potentially remote and regional, travel commitments are expected to engage with stakeholders.
To be successful you will need:
- A qualified veterinarian registerable with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of South Australia.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with stakeholders, including education on animal care and management.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and recent experience with primary clinical skills associated with small companion animals, especially dogs and cats.
- Demonstrate initiative and flexible thinking, in dealing with a wide range of possible, including unexpected, situations.
