The University is seeking a dedicated Technical Officer to join our Technical Operations team in the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering, and Technology (SET). The Technical Services Team plays a crucial role in enhancing education and research outcomes by providing outstanding support to students,
Your skills will be ideally broadly based with an understanding of manufacturing and fabrication techniques within an industry workshop environment. Experience with CNC mills and lathes and associated software programs, is essential. Experience with 3D printing, Laser cutting and composite materials, would be also be advantageous.
Role Summary:
As a Technical Officer, you will deliver expert technical support, design, and manufacturing services to students, academic staff, and researchers. Your role will involve advising and training technicians, maintaining workshop facilities and equipment, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and modify products, machinery, and tools to meet relevant Australian Standards.
- Maintain workshop equipment in excellent condition and ensure safe practices are adhered to by all users.
- Provide technical advice and training in trade-based design and manufacturing.
- Supervise students and external clients in the mechanical workshop and Innovation Studios.
- Ensure all activities comply with Workplace Health and Safety requirements and contribute to the development of risk assessments and standard operating procedures.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with students, staff, industry partners, and the community.
To be successful you will need:
Knowledge and Experience-
- Demonstrated knowledge of technical services and principles associated with working within customer focused mechanical workshop.
- Demonstrated experience in engineering trade based manufacturing and maintenance.
- Demonstrated high level of computer literacy, knowledge and hands-on experience in use of specialized engineering software for design and manufacturing including 3D printing.
- Excellent understanding of Work Health and Safety requirements in relation to mechanical workshop environment.
- High level organisational skills and an ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines, and the ability to priorities’ tasks and assignments.
- Ability to work with general supervision, think creatively and laterally and exercise initiative as appropriate to achieve a standard of excellence and monitor on-going performance.
- Proven communication expertise with a diverse client groups and stakeholders and the ability to work collaboratively
- Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.
Qualification/s-
- Completion of a post-trades certificate and extensive relevant experience working in a workshop environment; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and / or education / training.
