The Nguyen Laboratory at SAiGENCI is at the forefront of cancer systems biology, uniquely combining computational and predictive modelling with experimental approaches to tackle major challenges in cancer treatment. Our innovative research spans from understanding drug resistance mechanisms to developing personalised therapeutic strategies, with a particular focus on breast, prostate, and lung cancers. Our laboratory's distinctive strength lies in the close integration of theoretical prediction and experimental validation, creating powerful cycles of discovery that advance our understanding of cancer biology and treatment.

About the Position:

The Integrative Network Modelling Laboratory (INML) at SAiGENCI seeks a highly motivated Research and Laboratory Manager to establish and manage a state-of-the-art cellular and molecular biology wet lab. This key position will work directly with Professor Lan Nguyen to set up the laboratory infrastructure, manage daily operations, and actively support research activities. The role combines hands-on research support with operational management, focusing on cancer cell biology, drug resistance mechanisms, and cellular signalling studies. The position offers a unique opportunity to work in an innovative environment that integrates computational and experimental approaches to cancer research.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Work with Prof Nguyen to establish and set up a new wet laboratory facility within the INML, including equipment procurement, space organization, and implementation of standard operating procedures

• Manage daily laboratory operations, including consumable ordering, lab rosters, inventory management, database upkeep, and laboratory safety compliance

• Actively support research through hands-on execution of cellular, molecular, and biochemical experiments, including cancer cell culture, drug response assays, and biochemical analyses

• Work collaboratively with postdoctoral researchers and computational modellers within INML to integrate experimental data with network modelling

• Help with writing and preparation of scientific manuscripts coming out from the research

• Induct, onboard, and train PhD and Masters students in specialized laboratory techniques and safety procedures

• Foster a positive, efficient, and collaborative lab environment

Key Selection Criteria:

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in biology/biomedical/biotechnology sciences or similar
  • At least 4 years’ experience in cellular and molecular biology laboratory techniques
  • Demonstrated expertise in a range of cancer cell biology techniques including cell culture, cellular assays, and biochemical techniques (e.g. cell proliferation/death assays, western blotting, immunofluorescence, gene silencing/overexpression)
  • Strong organisational skills with demonstrated ability in lab management, managing lab inventories, databases, and operational logistics
  • Experience in training and supervising junior researchers or students
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in setting up new laboratory facilities
  • Strong knowledge of cell signalling, cancer biology and/or drug resistance mechanisms
  • Familiarity with high-throughput experimental omics techniques, such as RNA-seq and/or mass-spectrometry based proteomics
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary teams, particularly related to integrating experimental research with computational approaches
  • Track-record in scientific publications
