About the Role:
This role focuses on providing high-quality nursing care and critical support for equine, large animal, and hobby farm patients (including goats, sheep, alpacas, and more), where no two days are the same.

You will play a key role in emergency and critical care cases, surgical support, and the ongoing treatment and monitoring of hospitalised patients, working alongside internal medicine specialists, surgeons, and primary opinion clinicians.

This is a hands-on, hospital-based role with opportunities to build advanced skills in large animal anaesthesia, medical and surgical nursing, and emergency triage on onsite and infield. Nurses also rotate through our Ambulatory service which facilitates both routine and emergency care for horses and hobby farm animals. You'll work with a team of experienced professionals in a state-of-the-art facility, delivering gold-standard care to both emergency and non-emergency patients.

Our hospital operates 24/7, and the position involves working on a rotating roster (over a eight week cycle), including night shifts, weekends, and public holidays. Shift loadings apply, and full roster details will be provided during the recruitment process. The roster offers the opportunity to experience all services offered by RVH.

We are seeking a qualified and or experienced veterinary nurse or technologist with a strong background in equine The ideal candidate is calm under pressure, passionate about patient care, and confident working in a fast-paced clinical environment. Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset are essential, along with a willingness to contribute to teaching by supporting and mentoring veterinary and veterinary nursing students.

Candidates who are working towards their certificate IV in Veterinary nursing or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology and have some large animal handling experience are encouraged to apply.

We are seeking:

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or combination of relevant experience and/or education/training with 2 years minimum experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated experience in equine handling including ability to safety perform manual restraint; in hand leading and controlled lunging
  • Demonstrates capacity to work in a collaborative, client centric team environment delivering best practice
  • Excellent attention to detail in administering treatments, record keeping and documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience and /or knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety systems and procedures.
  • Demonstrates veterinary nursing experience with sound technical skills and knowledge in area of interest (surgery, ECC, IM, or GP).
  • Demonstrates a professional attitude when working with clients and other staff members and students.
