This position within the Credit Management department is key in developing the Impairment analytics, and business support and insights within NewDay. The purpose of the role is to support and further enhance NewDay’s impairment methodology framework. The focus will be on IFRS9 models / methodologies covering the existing framework and PD, LGD and EAD model requirements.

0-12 months you’ll deliver

Supporting the Senior Manager Impairment Strategy in delivering accurate, insightful, and timely overviews of the Groups Expected Credit Losses (ECL) and the underlying drivers. Candidates will support in all IFRS9 modelling techniques, methodology, testing and validation.

The role will look to take ownership of IFRS9 activities, consulting with other teams in providing a consolidated NewDay-wide provision adequacy-based view.

  • This involves stakeholder engagement duties, including communicating analysis and findings with senior management.
  • Model development and implementation including on-going support around model maintenance/model changes
  • Adopt and own IFRS9 model build documentation
  • Support IFRS9 model maintenance and pre-emptive justification and ongoing review (monitoring) of the modelling choices and assumptions.
  • Develop the capability to communicate and interact with the different relevant contributors and oversight areas
  • Role model for the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in within the company

We need knowledge, experience + expertise in:

  • Planning:  Highly organised, with the ability to deliver to deadlines and manage conflicting priorities within a dynamic environment
  • Problem Solving: A strategic problem solver; highly intellectual with commercial competence. A logical and methodical thought process
  • Independent: Be able to work with a high level of self-motivation when required to the highest standard within challenging deadlines.
  • Experience: Detailed knowledge of the financial services industry and of unsecured retail credit industry. Relevant risk management experience, ideally within a decision science, collections or impairments role
  • Experience: A working knowledge of impairments / provisions within retail banking. Experience of developing, validating, or monitoring IFRS9 or Credit Models is highly desirable.
  • Stakeholder Management: A desire to work effectively with people at all levels, with specific focus on building and maintaining relationships within the business
  • Education: University degree level or similar with highly numerate and analytical content.

And would love you to know or learn:

  • Experience: previous experience of IFRS 9 model development, validation or monitoring is highly desirable
  • Communication: Excellent influencing, interpersonal & communication (written & verbal) skills
  • Coding: Strong knowledge and experience working with SAS, SQL, R or Python. Proficiency in data extraction and manipulation
