Job description:

Responsible for the provision of high level, specialised expertise, management, and team supervision in relation to the operation of the State’s Traffic Management Centre (TMC) and Traffic Signals, that includes guideline development, system monitoring, active real-time intervention, and incident management, to ensure the safe, effective, and reliable flow of traffic on the State’s Road network. Provides technical and project support for the development, configuration, commissioning, testing, fault analysis, systems operations, whole of life management and maintenance of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and associated devices for use by the Department Staff and road users.

Period of Appointment

Appointment to the role is on a fixed term flexible basis (up to 73.5 hours per fortnight) for 12 months. 

Duties

  • Reviews data, develops new traffic signals and ITS plans, systems and procedures and provides advice with recommendations.
  • Research and implement improvements for enhancing the existing traffic signals operations and developing new traffic signal solutions.
  • Assist the ITS Team Leader and project managers with the delivery and ongoing management of ITS Projects.
  • Identify and analyse operational problems with ITS systems and develops reports with recommendations.
  • Lead, motivate and gain co-operation from stakeholders for the development of policies, procedures, standards, and specifications.
  • Effective implementation of policies on related traffic signal timings, signals settings, monitoring of systems heath performance ensuring the State’s traffic management objectives are advanced.
  • Responsible for the management and operation of various traffic monitoring systems associated with the Sydney Co-ordinated Adaptive Traffic System (SCATS), CCTV and functions of the OMCS.
  • Code, verify and test traffic signal timings utilising using established procedures. Responsible for the daily TMC supervision, planning and coordination of works.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, ministerial briefs, correspondence and provide technical evidence in court.

Desirable Requirements

  • Minimum of five years’ working experience related to Intelligent Transport Systems( ITS), traffic signals and traffic operations.
  • Demonstrated technical ITS working experience in delivering projects.
  • Current Drivers Licence
