Job description:

The position contributes to the efficient and effective operation of the Office of the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner by facilitating the early resolution of complaints and undertaking investigations and conciliations. The position requires frequent communication with members of the public and the maintenance of a high and respected profile for the Commissioner and the office.

Period of Appointment

ASAP for 6 months.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available. 

Duties

  • Conduct assessment and investigation of complaints of discrimination and prohibited conduct in accordance with the provisions of the Act including direct contact with parties to complaints and others relevant to the investigation and preparation of reports for decision by the Commissioner (or her delegate).
  • Conduct statutory conciliations to assist the parties in the resolution of complaints.
  • Undertake research in respect of complaints and their investigation.
  • Prepare concise, factual, and analytical complaint assessment documents and investigation documents, including recommendations, for consideration and decision by the Commissioner (or her delegate).
  • Identify and facilitate discussions on appropriate solutions and strategies for resolution of complaints under investigation.
  • Prepare correspondence related to complaint handling matters.
  • Respond to enquiries from members of the public concerning potential complaints under the Act.
  • Assist with research and educational programs promoting attitude, acts and practices against discrimination and prohibited conduct including preparing and delivering community legal education, presentations, and seminars.

Desirable Requirements

  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Experience in alternative dispute resolution and investigation work.

Pre-employment Checks

The Head of State Service has determined that the person nominated for this vacancy is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion or transfer.

  1. Pre-employment (National Police Record) checks for: Arson and fire setting, violent crimes and crimes against the person, sex-related offences, drug and alcohol related offences, crimes involving dishonesty, deception and/or conspiracy, making false declarations, malicious damage and destruction to property, serious traffic offences, crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice, Executive or the Legislative Power.
  2. Disciplinary action in previous employment.
  3. Identification check.
