Job description:

Strategic Projects provides a strategic and policy capacity to deliver sensitive and high priority projects in line with Government and departmental priorities. The Senior Policy Officer will play a key role in the delivery of this work by supporting and leading various policy, project and strategy initiatives. They will also provide advice on emerging and ongoing matters and represent the division and Department in various internal and external forums.

Period of Appointment

Appointment to the role is on a fixed term flexible basis (up to 73.5 hours per fortnight) for 12 months. 

Duties

Lead or assist with policy tasks, relating to often complex and uncertain issues, and provide advice and recommendations which are based on analysis, reasoning and consultation with stakeholders.

  • Plan and implement projects using appropriate project management tools and approaches to ensure milestones are achieved and outcomes delivered within time and resource constraints.
  • Prepare high-level written material including advisories, correspondence, reports, proposals, minutes, briefs and communication plans in accordance with the Agency’s agreed standards of practice for government.
  • Liaise and foster productive working relationships with stakeholders to ensure that consultative processes and objectives are achieved, and timeframes adhered to.
  • Manage a diverse range of responsibilities within a complex and dynamic environment, ensuring that work is completed on time and in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Provide timely and effective business support to individuals and units within the Policy, Strategy and Projects group, including assisting with whole-of-agency coordination activities and day-to-day operational priorities.
  • Manage staff activities, where delegated as part of a project or activity, to ensure that the work is undertaken on time and to standard.

Desirable Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree or higher, with experience in policy, law, commerce, or economics would be particularly valued.
