Position Summary

The Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State University invites applications for a part-time, 30% appointment, instructor position to one lecture section and 2 laboratory sections of FW424, Wildlife Population Analysis and Management for Fall 2025.

This is a 5-month fixed term Instructor with a 100% teaching assignment. The position start date is anticipated to be August 1, 2025; the position end date is anticipated to be December 31, 2025.

The FW424, Wildlife Population Analysis and Management course typically has an enrollment of approximately 50 upper-level undergraduate students. It is required of Fisheries and Wildlife majors in the Wildlife Biology and Management concentration and is a curricular option for other FW concentrations and majors. The course meets on Wednesdays and Fridays 11:30 AM – 12:20 PM for combined lecture, and for computer labs on Wednesday 3:00 PM – 4:50 PM and Friday 12:40 to 2:30 PM.

The Department will pay a single instructor $13,000 for the semester for teaching this class ($2,600 per month for Aug. – Dec.).

An earned Master’s degree in related field.

Desired Qualifications

An earned Ph.D. degree in related field. The successful candidate would ideally have training and professional experience in wildlife population ecology and management, including familiarity with quantitative approaches to estimating wildlife population abundances and demographic rates. In addition, the successful candidate should be familiar with examples in which population analysis techniques that are covered in the course, inform conservation and management decisions for wildlife populations and their ecosystems. The successful candidate should be passionate about undergraduate teaching.
