Position Summary
The DOE Plant Research Laboratory is seeking to fill the position of Senior Administrative Business Professional/S. This position works in collaboration with the Director to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and overall excellence in departmental operations, thus enabling the success of the department’s missions, its faculty, and staff. Along with the Director, the Senior Admin. Business Professional sets goals and objectives for the department and manages its relationship with the college.
Purpose The Senior Admin. Business Professional/S will manage and provide support to the administrators, faculty, researchers, students, and external guests of the DOE Plant Research Laboratory. Assigned Scope Manges the business office of the DOE Plant Research Laboratory Responsibilities
• Providing important financial and operational support o oversees fiscal management and accounting practices. o conducts annual budget process, provides budget planning, forecasting, and analyzing for all types of departmental accounts. o Maintains reporting and control systems; monitors departmental expenditures; oversees compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations of the University, and assures a high-functioning infrastructure to support the department. Business Office Management
• Supervises office staff and provides a positive, balanced work—life environment by determining the appropriate organizational structure and mix of staff to maximize operations and minimize expenses.
o Oversee daily operations and anticipate workflow demands. o Allocate resources based on assignment priorities. o Assign tasks according to staff capacity, competencies, and expected outcomes.
o Foster a culture of excellent customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. o Develop and reinforce work instructions and processes that ensure accuracy and productivity.
o Promote staff development by providing regular feedback and coaching. Complete annual performance evaluations on time and in compliance. Address performance concerns with appropriate consultation.
o Coordinates and participates in hiring, onboarding, and training new clerical staff, faculty, researchers, and student employees.
• Plays a pivotal role in facilitating the achievement of departmental goals and objectives while maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Acts as an HR resource to the Director, faculty, and staff for recruiting and retaining the department's talented human resources. This requires a candidate to be organized, experienced, enthusiastic, and an inclusive professional with excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Requires the ability to maintain confidentiality and be a trusted resource for all employees. This also requires hiring, developing, and implementing human resources strategies, including compensation, talent, performance management strategies, and managing international visas.
• Stay engaged with MSU and college-level updates. Keep up with news and announcements, attend staff meetings, and pursue training and development opportunities.
• Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the responsibilities of this job classification.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in a business-related field or in Plant Science; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in office procedures and administration, or in performing responsibilities related to the operational activities of the employing unit; experience in a supervisory role; experience with word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software and/or desktop publishing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This is a fully on-site position, and the individual is expected to be physically present in the building during regular business hours. In addition, the individual must be available after hours to respond to emergencies as needed
