Position Summary

This position will work closely with the college budget officer and college human resources. The incumbent will assist the Department of Teacher Education in budget management, reporting, forecasting, and financial planning of various non-grant accounts.

The incumbent will oversee accounting and human resources processing activities (such as additional payments for overload), prepare financial reports, provide regular budget and accounting updates, verify the accuracy of financial reports, assist with fiscal administrative procedures, and implement policies and procedures to address financial issues. The incumbent will analyze data, report findings, seek root causes, and develop solutions and recommendations.

Responsibilities include coordinating with college human resources to determine accounting strings and labor projections. Assisting with the preparation of faculty/academic staff and graduate student appointments with determining effort based on load. Help college human resources with payments and problem-solve payment issues.

The incumbent will review and approve documents such as vouchers, purchase requisitions, and procurement card purchase in EBS, ensuring that expenses fall within the budgets established and university policy. The incumbent will perform monthly reconciling and forecasting to provide guidance to chairperson for programmatic decision making based on financial status of department.

Additional duties may be assigned to support administrative operations.

Hybrid work statement: The college is currently operating under a hybrid modality structure, with staff working two days in person and three days remotely. This structure is subject to change at any time.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Accounting; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in supervision, accounting procedures and developing accounting controls, policies and procedures; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

University budgeting experience is preferred. Knowledge of MSU systems (EBS, KFS, HR-SAP, Concur, BI, Power, BI, SFN). 4-year degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related area, minimum of 5 years' experience. Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
