Security Operations Coordinator
Position Summary
- Monitoring access control systems and intrusion detection systems, including building safety or automation systems related to infrastructure safety and personal security (alarm monitoring).
- Access and review security video systems as necessary in response to security alarms or other law enforcement related activities or as required as part of passive video monitoring responsibilities.
- Fielding phone calls and police radio communications in support of overall campus security operations.
- Providing a point of contact for security related concerns to students on the East Lansing campus using the SafeMSU mobile app, this includes monitoring mapping applications activated for "safe walk" situations.
- Launching the campus mass notification system for emergency warnings and timely notices utilizing rapid activation buttons or web applications as required.
- Logging calls for service related to safety and security including assistance on responding to intrusion alarms or other safety and security notifications.
- Activating the campus siren system as required for safety and security.
- Collaborating with Ingham County 911 dispatch on law enforcement unit dispatching related to campus safety and security.
- Actively monitoring software application for crime tips and responding accordingly upon receipt of tips
- Oversee the MSU DPPS’s Cadet Desk. The Cadet desk is staffed by all MSU Students that are passionate about criminal justice and law enforcement. The Cadet desk is the central hub of the MSU DPPS, receiving phone calls and walk-in customers. In addition to handling incoming phone calls and walk-ins, Cadets also monitor the University’s fire and intrusion alarm systems, monitor police radio traffic, take reports and provide general assistance and information to the campus community and visitors.
- Train and oversee Cadets assigned to the SOC.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in intelligence analysis, criminal justice or related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in overseeing intelligence data collection, analysis and strategy development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
