About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service has two opportunities for a Project Officer to work in an NPWS Greater Sydney Branch infrastructure delivery team, specifically the Major Infrastructure Delivery Unit (MIDU) and the Goat Island Remediation team.

The NPWS Greater Sydney Branch leads implementation of a range of programs across more than 50 National Parks and reserves including Royal National Park, the second oldest national park in the world, and Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, the second oldest national park in Australia. Our parks host more than 19 million visits each year and we are delivering a major program to improve visitor infrastructure in key visitor precincts and enhance heritage buildings and places, many of which are listed on the NSW State Heritage Register and/or the National Heritage List.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals with the initiative, ability, and desire to work in small, dynamic, and productive team. Previous achievement in delivering infrastructure or construction projects within a public space or natural resource setting will be highly regarded. An understanding of environmental impact assessment processes and some public sector knowledge would be desirable.

About you
As a Project Officer, you will contribute to the development, delivery, and review of projects within the team. This includes managing infrastructure design processes, coordinating environmental impact assessments, undertaking procurement activities, and managing contractors. You will oversee the day‑to‑day operations of individual projects and, where directed, supervise assigned staff and contractors.

You will liaise with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of projects, including monitoring and reporting on project budgets, resource requirements, stakeholder engagement activities, contract administration, and procurement processes.

Your passion for your community and the environment, combined with strong attention to detail and proficiency in project management, will be key to your success in this role. You will be adept at providing high‑level specialist advice and information to stakeholders on emerging project issues, supporting project development and delivery in line with established plans, budgets, timeframes, policies, environmental objectives, and other project priorities.

Demonstrated experience contributing to multidisciplinary project teams delivering built environment or infrastructure construction projects, historic heritage projects, or comparable initiatives is essential, along with the ability to bring additional relevant skills, experience, or qualifications to the role.

Knowledge and experience

  • Experience in development and delivery of projects, including the development of project plans, monitoring of project timelines, budgets and reporting requirements, and contract administration.

Essential requirements

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent relevant working experience in project management.
