The iconic Hotel Palace Luzern first opened in 1906 and is located in the heart of the city, on the shores of Lake Lucerne. The multi-million-dollar renovation will include the restyling of all guestrooms and suites, the redesign of the public areas, restaurants and bars as well as the landscaping of the outdoor grounds. Following the completion of the renovation, Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern will comprise 146 rooms and suites offering excellent views of the lake and mountains. There will be a restaurant and a bar together with a variety of social and meeting facilities and a spa and fitness room.

As a Director of Engineering you will direct and coordinate the Engineering Team. You will plan, organize and lead complex engineering projects.  You will be proactive, creative and results driven.

The Director of Engineering will be responsible for the following duties:

  • To oversee the strategic direction of general projects related to the enhancement of the hotel. The project management covers the areas of planning, administration, implementation and evaluation of financial results of the projects.
  • To develop, implement and monitor the preventive maintenance programs for all assets of the hotel.
  • To manage the combination of employing engineering colleagues and engineering outsourcing companies to minimize operating expenses To formulate and implement strategic direction for the hotel’s environmental protection activities and involvement in the local community.
  • To ensure that the hotel operates in conformity with the local codes and regulations related to all areas under the positions responsibility.
  • To manage the Energy and Water Management Program and establish engineering guidelines and standard operating procedures to maintain excellent standards of quality and reliability in the Hotel.
  • To establish a monthly reporting system in order to monitor Key Performance Indicators, guest room maintenance, energy consumption, operational and energy expenses, project updates, LQE activities and other specific tasks.
  • To establish, implement and maintain the FLHSS&E procedures, including relevant business continuity management plans and standard operating procedures.
  • To prepare annual and Five-Year capital plan and manage all CAPEX and POMEC projects in accordance with the policies and procedures.  
  • To initiate the deployment of technology to improve the sophistication of the engineering departments.
  • To be aware of, and comply with, safe working practices as laid down under Company Health & Safety Manual, as applicable to your place of work.

What we are looking for:

  • Extensive experience as a Chief Engineer or Director of Engineering within luxury hotels. Ideally Engineering studies such as Mechanical, Electrical, and Building Services.
  • Possess excellent organizational and administrative skills, result oriented, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, self-motivated, team player with good leadership skills.
  • Quality driven with a passion for excellence in guest service and satisfaction.
  • High energy and hands on in the operation. Flexible with work hours to meet the demands of a 24-hour operation.
  • Approachable, open-minded and fair. Strong creativity.
  • Previous opening experience is an advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of major building systems, power plant, air conditioning system, kitchens etc.
  • Experienced and knowledgeable in energy management.
  • Experienced user of office automation applications, including Word, Excel amongst others.
  • Excellent knowledge of German and English.
