Our Hotel
Set at the heart of the U.S. capital between Maine and Maryland Avenues and 12th and 14th Streets, SW, Mandarin Oriental, Washington DC has redefined luxury in the city. Just streets away from the nation’s most revered monuments and the Smithsonian Institution, the hotel is also within easy reach of Capitol Hill and District Wharf.
Overview of Position
Under the guidance of the Spa Director and within the limits of the Mandarin Oriental Policies, ensure that all operational procedures, codes of conduct and standards of appearance set down by the Spa Manager are adhered to by all staff. Help create a happy and motivated team and ensure the smooth running of the spa at all times.
Spa therapist will report directly to Spa Manager.
Essential Functions
- Ensuring Guest Satisfaction and the achievement of our Mission Statement
- To perform treatments on guests whilst maintaining the guest’s comfort at all times.
- Be on time for appointments and thoroughly review appointments after completing each treatment
- Keep work area clean and neat at all times.
- Must follow all Standards and Procedures as taught by Legendary trainers or Head Therapist.
- To ensure that a high standard of service is maintained throughout the Spa.
- Assist in the operations of all spa departments as required:

- Front Desk
- Spa Retail Area
- Relaxation Area
- Sales and Marketing Events
- Couple’s Suites/4th floor
- Lobby Activations
- Report dysfunctional equipment to Spa Director
- To maintain inventory of supplies for the operations of the treatment rooms
- Maintain cleanliness and attention to detail in treatment room throughout shift.
- To attend daily line-ups, weekly and monthly spa meetings.
- Will be expected to assist and perform various demonstrations and events.
- To maintain a high standard of appearance and personal hygiene as lay down by the Spa Director.
- Must attend all training courses as deemed necessary, and must adhere to training as set down by the Spa Director.
- Must have the ability to courteously interact and answer all spa and hotel related questions with guests.
- Perform all treatments to the highest standards.
- Assist in all areas of the spa as and when necessary. E.G. Relaxation area and Reception
- To recognize the importance of “sales” in every aspect of their role and responsible for achieving sales targets as set by the Spa Director.
- To be adaptable and accountable for all actions.
- Arrive 15 minutes before the start of your shift to allow sufficient time to prepare for your workday.
- Will perform as a professional, with a friendly business attitude and conduct all duties and responsibilities as required by the position, or assigned by the Spa Director.
- Maintain current professional licenses.
- Perform quarterly Spa Cleanings. (Intense cleaning of the spa)
Requirements
- Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule in order to accomplish all major responsibilities and tasks.
- Must be self-motivated.
- Must work in a safe, prudent and organized manner.
- Must have mathematical skills, technical aptitude and spa operation knowledge.
- Must be a graduate from an accredited school with a massage or face or manicure/pedicure license or a combination license
- Knowledge of specific spa industry applications is desirable, such as spa soft.
- Must have a commitment to follow all local and corporate policies and procedures as they relate to the Spa and hotel.
- Must have knowledge of current spa trends in the industry
- Must be able to relate to all levels of management and colleagues.
- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to network with contacts relevant to the Spa.
- Must have technical awareness and knowledge of a wide variety of treatments particularly for the face and body.
- Must have knowledge of holistic concepts that relate to the well being of all guests in a spa environment.
- Must be open to learning about treatments and concepts that derive from other cultures.
- To set a standard at all times in professionalism, appearance and attitude as expected of all spa colleagues.
- To be adaptable and accountable for all actions.
- Must understand the current legislation in regards to State and local laws for therapists.
- Consistently strive for a higher level of achievement both personally and professionally
- Must be comfortable performing treatments for at least 8 hours.
- Must have good time management skills in regards to treatments.
