JOB SUMMARY:
Under general direction of the Legal Affairs department, the Senior Attorney - Construction and Capital Projects – Universal Orlando is responsible for drafting, negotiating, and interpreting master agreements, complex commercial contracts, letter agreements and other legal documentation, and managing compliance requirements, contractual obligations, and dispute resolution. This position will support the Legal team and its departmental clients at Universal Orlando, will collaborate with the Legal departments at Universal Creative and Universal Studios Hollywood in drafting and negotiating master agreements and policies and procedures, and will prepare and provide contracts training to Universal Orlando personnel.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Negotiate, draft and interpret complex business contracts including master construction agreements, supply/service agreements, and a range of other types of agreements, such as design, construction, and renovation agreements for capital improvements to Universal’s facilities, infrastructure, and attractions; provide advice on regulatory and contractual compliance obligations; and provide support for dispute resolution with contracted parties, termination of contracts, warranty claims, and other support as assigned.
- Create, update, and maintain contract and scope of work boilerplates and templates.
- Draft and implement policies and procedures and develop and provide training surrounding contract administration, compliance obligations, and contractual requirements.
- Assist with oversight and tracking of operational compliance issues including regulatory matters other matters including safety, security, privacy, and accessibility.
- Provide legal research and general legal advice and counsel to business units as needed.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- Juris Doctor required from an accredited law school.
EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years’ post-law school experience, as an attorney, preferably with top-tier law firm or corporate legal department.; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 4 years’ experience interpreting, negotiating and drafting complex commercial transactions, including at least three years’ construction experience.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Florida Bar registration required.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Extensive contract drafting experience in a variety of subject matter areas.
- Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as Internet and web-based training tools.
- Sound business judgment, and flexibility/adaptability to manage multiple wide-ranging matters, conflicting deadlines, and new areas of expertise as business needs change.
- Proven ability and commitment to work both independently and collaboratively with numerous people at all levels throughout the company.
