JOB SUMMARY

Assists in the generation of initial facility, show, ride, and overall project budget estimates and updates estimates during the early design phases to ensure the project is tracking on budget. Works closely with Studio and project designers to develop cost estimates for all show elements, facility and area development, and scenic elements throughout design (Ideation, Feasibility, and Concept Design). Works in partnership with project estimators and Attraction Development on cost estimate development and to complete post-mortem cost summaries of the project.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the creation and updates of project estimates throughout the design phases including but not limited to blue sky, concept, schematic. Support projects in construction on an as needed basis in later project phases (design development and construction documents). As needed, work with project teams in various cities and countries.
  • Assists in the generation of initial budget estimates for new project concepts and ideas through-out design. Continually refine and update estimates through early design phases for multiple projects.
  • Participates actively in the creative design process with Studio and Project designers to develop new ideas and concepts.
  • Assists in creating “value engineering” components with the project team to mitigate cost overruns. Researches and presents alternate approaches, equipment, materials, or methodology for VE consideration.
  • Works with Finance to establish proper budget breakdown and associated budget codes for management and reporting.
  • Assists in the preparation of budget estimate summaries and presents to Senior Leadership.
  • Participates in Contractor subcontractor buy-out process, providing owner representation/oversight.
  • Researches market conditions for cost trends and local means and methods (both locally and internationally). Develops location cost factors and escalation factors. Analyzes Universal Creative historical costs and disseminates to appropriate year and location. Incorporates current and historic costs into a central database. Develops comparisons for various attractions and non-attraction facilities.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineer in related business fields is required. Master’s degree in Construction Management or Business Administration preferred.

EXPERIENCE

3+ years’ on-site construction and estimating experience on retail, food, hotel, theme parks and themed entertainment projects, knowledge of show and ride estimating, and facility impacts required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
