JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for implementation, development, and support of a combination of custom & vendor business applications used in Universal’s revenue operations (food & beverage, retail). This role will engage with business stakeholders to document business requirements, system specifications, business processes and solution recommendations. Will be responsible for designing new features, developing customizations/reports/integrations, supporting & enhancing existing interfaces. This will include application extensions, customizations, system configurations, and application testing efforts while working in conjunction with the broader team to ensure issues are identified, tracked, reported on, and resolved in a timely manner.
This role requires in-depth knowledge of the system configuration, software development, and application architecture to support all ongoing enhancements of the Point-of-Sale software applications, food & retail management applications, reporting, and system integrations. This includes managing various technical aspects of the Point-of-Sale system specifications, including technical architecture and integrations with other applications.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Software Engineering
- Hands-on development of Point of Sale, food & beverage, and retail software applications, reports, integrations.
- Write, maintain, and review technical design documents, architecture, data flow, process, and logic diagrams.
- Serve as technical subject matter expert in application and data integration.
- Collaborate with internal partners in conceptualizing and development of new software programs and applications.
- Test newly developed capabilities to ensure the solution can meet the business needs and will be able to handle the production load.
Application Support & Maintenance
- Maintain & technically support applications - troubleshoot issues, identify root cause, and proactively implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Assist with planning and execute on-going systems maintenance and upgrades with no disruption to business operations.
- Help manage daily operations; some overnight shift-schedule support will be required during rollout and special company events
- Identify and analyze software defects and work with the software vendor to resolve and implement business system solutions.
- Help plan and execute system upgrades and perform system maintenance and upgrades with no disruption to business operations.
- Hands-on support and troubleshoot issues (process & system), identify root cause, and proactively implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Perform hands-on system configuration changes, deploy code, and ensure system environment stability.
- Develop technical maintenance schedule that adheres to compliance requirements and business needs.
Projects, Optimization, Enhancements
- Collaborate with business analysts & SME’s to understand business processes & workflows, and collect functional requirements.
- Evaluate and conduct system, end to end, and performance testing.
- Conduct architecture reviews with technical experts; ensure system and code is implemented correctly.
- Partner with DevOps team to streamline continuous integration and deployment processes.
- Identify new opportunities & services to enhance the systems platform and drive more productivity.
- Establish and implement repeatable processes, tools/templates, ensure common design patterns on standard communication protocols.
- Partner with Architecture group to ensure platform compliance and optimal usage.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or Engineering (or equivalent relevant work experience).
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems is highly desirable.
EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years’ experience with software development (.net, Java, C++, HTML5, JavaScript)
- 5+ years’ experience of progressive experience in systems analysis & development, technical support, and data integration.
- 4+ years’ experience with Point of Sale, retail management, food management, or warehouse management applications, preferably with Oracle retail & hospitality applications (e.g. Simphony, Opera, Xstore).
- 4+ years’ experience of Hands-on engineering on cloud or on-premise applications.
- Packaged software application experience with functions including:
- Master Data Setups and Maintenance
- Inventory Management
- Product Price Management
- Revenue Recognition
- Workflow monitoring and modifications
- Managing CRON jobs and overall run books
- Vendor Management
- Sourcing and Procurement
- Cost Management
- Recipes and/or Bill of Materials
- Identity and Access Management (e.g. Active Directory integration)
- Application of patches for bug fixes and enhancements
- or equivalent combination of education and experience.
