JOB SUMMARY:
This position as a combination Paint / Fiberglass Lead requires a complete understanding extensive knowledge of both fields in order to maintain a successful team.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans and delegates work tasks. Delegates work assignments among qualified crew members. Communicates performance expectations in an effort to ensure proper completion of tasks. Communicates and coordinates with other departments or crafts as needed. Communicates resource needs and work plans to Supervision. Provides two-way communications between work team, Supervisor, and other management and HR personnel.
- Maintains and shares job knowledge and assists in training by developing new and current employees in multiple areas including but not limited to painting various props (ex. - wood graining, aging, textures) to match existing surfaces. Cosmetic fiberglass repairs and gel coats utilizing various materials. Layout, sculpting, theming and painting of various props from artist direction and/or conceptual drawings. Carbon fiber layup and vacuum bagging of repaired ride vehicles and props.
- Maintain and update documentation of paint products, resins, fiberglass mat and procedures used in modifications and repairs. Works with coordinators and management to insure paint booths and equipment are always properly maintained and functional.
- Helps direct structural and cosmetic fiberglass and carbon fiber repairs to ride vehicles, show figures and miscellaneous animation parts which may include direction of Management, Quality Control and the engineering group. Suggests optional procedures for repairs on new and damaged parts and implements changes as needed or directed.
- Performs gel coating as needed on ride vehicles, props, materials, and miscellaneous parts using spray and brush techniques which may include direction of Management, Engineering and the Quality Control Dept.
- Design, manufacture and repair both hard and soft molds for composite material products that are used throughout the venues.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SCOPE:
This position requires the ability to assist the Engineering Department with design modifications, both structural and cosmetic repairs of ride vehicles, show figures and other props and products as directed by both Engineering and management directives. Knowledge in crafting, cutting, trimming, sanding, assembly, vacuum bagging, painting and theming among other operations involved as well as the successful production of composite materials. It is essential to have a complete understanding of “Layup Charts”, drawings, blueprints, and engineered speciation’s to insure the quality and structural integrity of parts that are being repaired and manufactured. A high level of scenic painting experience is essential in the training of new team members. It is mandatory that the team member possess a thorough knowledge of paints, performance characteristics and correct application techniques in order to meet artist intent.
EDUCATION:
- High school degree or GED is required.
- Technical school is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ Years: Structural layup of composite matting materials as well as grinding and prep for repairs of finished products required.
- Additional experience of properly preparing indications and feathering composite materials to insure all affected areas of discrepancies have been removed.
- Knowledge of spraying and brushing of gel coatings is required.
- Experience in theme painting and air brush painting.
- Color matching and blending of new to existing finishes is necessary;
- Preferred – 5-7 years proven experience in a similar work environment dealing with critical paint issues.
- Knowledge of all phases of paint, fiberglass and sculpting are needed to be successful in this job classification.
- Free Style painting is a plus;
- or equivalent combination of education and experience.
