JOB SUMMARY:
The Attraction Designer is responsible for the design, development, and documentation of the ride system and technical show elements primarily utilizing 3D modeling and animation as a design and coordination tool. Responsible for the development of virtual attraction models, ride and show animation, creative and timing animatics, scene studies, renders, plans, and sections depicting design and art direction for all ride, show and scenic components of a project. Produces designs which creatively integrate the myriad show, facility, equipment, and elements into the overall creative environment. Responsible for integration and coordination of show and facility elements in the virtual attraction model. Responsible for creating multiple technical and creative approaches and solutions to meet critical design criteria, such as: guest experience, theoretical hourly capacity, show timing, vehicle spacing, etc. Utilizes various modeling & drafting techniques, 3D modeling/animating & drawing techniques and tools (e.g., 3ds Max, Maya, Unreal, AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) to model, draw, draft and create dimensional, scale drawings and models detailing the design intent and the integration of various ride & show elements with each other and the facility. Responsible for designing to project program and budget, and for coordinating and integrating with other disciplines.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conceives, develops, and iterates ride and show design elements in coordination with the show set package, primarily utilizing 3D modeling and animation software in combination with 2D CAD software to communicate the creative intent with sketches, renderings, animatics, sections, plans, etc. (as directed by the Show Producer, Art Director, Creative Director, Production Designer or Principal/Senior Attraction Designer).
- Designs the creative and technical development and iteration of ride and show design elements with a focus on overall timing, sightlines, and scale through various phases of development. Develops and manages the coordinated virtual attraction model, which details the various synchronized ride & show elements of an attraction such as ride paths & timing, ride vehicles, scenery, media, lighting, special effects, show action equipment, animated figures, props, and more.
- Develops presentation animatics including the overall creative animatic, timing animatic, coordination animatic, sizzle reels, scene studies, etc.
- Participates in design, cost, schedule, and technical reviews, and is responsible for developing creative and feasible solutions to integrate elements into a themed environment.
- Mentors and provides guidance and training to staff related to career goals and technical skills. Motivates staff to accomplish assignment goals. Builds bench strength within the staff by identifying training and development opportunities. Leads staff and communicates job expectations, planning, coaching. Develops and implements policies, procedures, and show set design standards.
- Establishes, builds, and maintains positive and productive team relationships based on open communication, trust and teamwork with project partners, departments, disciplines, and personnel. Communicates, inspires, and maintains project intent among all team-members.
- Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Must have prior experience in theatre, film, animation, architecture, gaming, or other related industries, if no experience in theme park design.
- Must be a creative, innovative, organized thinker and problem solver with strong technical and artistic ability with various design techniques/tools such as show set / scenic design and drafting, 3D modeling, architectural design, and/or others.
- Must be proficient in 3D modeling software such as 3ds Max, Maya, etc. with working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Must have strong communication and collaboration skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred. (Architecture, Interior Design, Fine Arts, Design, Theater, Graphics, Computer Animation, etc.)
EXPERIENCE:
4+ years Design experience for themed entertainment, theme parks or related industries; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
