JOB SUMMARY:

  • Supports management by organizing and leading teams of fabrication specialists through all types of projects including: project prep, patterning/draping, full garment construction, fittings, and alterations and repairs.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides work direction and expectations to fabrication specialists following the standards established by the Supervisor and SOPs. Assists supervision by assigning specific work to fabrication specialist on their project teams.  Prepares project work by requesting and pulling materials, supplies, patterns, and samples as needed.  Maintains status on project with each individual fabricator to ensure that directions are being followed and all finishing work is done in a timely manner and at an acceptable quality standard. Performs final quality assurance checks on completed costume pieces prior to release to the venue.
  • Performs training and onboarding of new fabricators following the standards established by the Supervisor and SOPs. Provides  additional training and specific technique instruction to current team members on assignments as needed.
  • Monitors compliance of current Company and department policies and procedures and alerts management as necessary Provides feedback for recognition and performance improvement to the Supervisor as needed via the Lead Observation Report to support managerial and supervisory documentation. Monitors equipment/supplies/facilities and alerts management to existing or potential issues. Ensures the costume fabrication work areas remain clean and organized.
  • Leads Fabrication Specialists through fittings, alterations, and completion work for new and existing costumes.  Displays tact, discretion, and confidentiality at all times during the fitting and alteration process.
  • Communicates and troubleshoots with Supervisors, Costume Designers, Costuming Management, and other Entertainment Supervisory team members as it relates to issue/notes that have arisen surrounding costumes.
  • Capable and willing to perform all duties of a Fabrication Specialist I, including but not limited to: pattern making/draping from technical drawings or design renderings, cutting and preparation of materials, and complex construction/alterations/repairs of all types of garments using any type of fabric.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: 

  • High school degree or GED required. Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 

  • 1+ years’ experience as a Fabrication Specialist 1 or First Hand equivalent in theatrical setting required.
  • Six months or more experience providing work direction, and previous theatrical experience preferred; or outside equivalent combination of education and experience.
