Director, LBE Attraction Development & Design

Job Summary: 

At Universal Destinations & Experiences, the Director will work directly with Universal staff and licensing partners to create IP branded hotels, theme parks, water parks, attractions, live shows, and exhibitions. Under license, Universal partners with experienced attraction and exhibition developers and operators to build their location-based entertainment portfolio. Oversight includes overall design look and feel, attractions, recreation, area development and branded elements. This role reports to the SVP, Global Location Based Entertainment.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Lead all aspects of the design and development process for Universal’s global LBE attractions and exhibitions. Collaborate with licensees to design and develop world-class LBE attractions and experiences that enhance the brand and deepen Universal’s connection with kids and families.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with leading design firms producing best-in-class work around the world. Participate in the creation of relevant project budgets in collaboration with the project management teams.
  • Participate in the concept development of multiple projects of various scales simultaneously. Clearly articulate design direction and convey it to project team. Supervise fabrication and installation of attractions and exhibitions as well as design and comment electronically using a variety of software.
  • Ensure brand and visual identity is consistently applied to attractions and exhibitions and confirm licensees comply with project schedules, budgets and contractual obligations. Collaborate with Universal’s creative teams accordingly.
  • Work closely with licensees, as well as approved architects, operators, design firms, consultants to lead the creative production process for the design and development of all projects. Develop and maintain good working relationships with third party partners and licensees.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree or minimum of 10 years of LBE industry creative development and design experience in themed entertainment, branding, story, architecture and technology.

EXPERIENCE: 

  • Experience working with high profile brands and developing relationships with invested stakeholders
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and inspire both internal and external design and development teams

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES: 

  • Ability to be flexible with work schedules, including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Suite, CADD, 3D modelling
  • Extensive domestic and international travel 
  • Deep familiarity of Universal owned or controlled properties is a plus
